Fibromyalgia question

I was diagnosed in hospital A+E during August 2009 with Fibromyalgia, but I knew I had something else on top as well. That was MS. But the third thing is the super sensitive pain I get which could be anywhere from my face to my wrists or any other points in my body. When it attacks say my wrist for instance, the pain just strikes you, but when I go to rub where it hurts the super sensitivity is like I have a sprained wrist. My face is where I suffer most. I go to touch my cheek and it seems it is like someone has punched my eye. Has anyone got the same symptoms with Fibromyaligia? has anyone been taking, then come off the drug such as Pregabalin (Lyrica)? Has someone had their Fibromyalgia go away?
Also, does anyone have a hospital specialist looking after them for Fibromyalgia? I was diagnosed in A+E and given Pregabalin which helps keep the most agonising pain away, but I have not been referred to a specialist.
Thank you so much if you can help me by answering my question.

Hiya,
I've had fibro for almost 12yrs now alongside RA. I've never taken any medication for it other than amitriptyline to help me sleep (although this could be for the RA). The two conditions are quite similar and intermingled its sometimes difficult to tell them apart.
The random sensitive pain you describe could be part of the fibro, i usually say that if the pain is near or in a joint then its RA and if its no where near a joint then its Fibro.
It has settled down from when I was first diagnosed. I can recognise the signs of the Fibro kicking off and take action to curtail them or I know what will set it off so I avoid those activities/actions.
A lady I know who only has Fibro doesn't see anyone at the hospital but is in regular contact with her GP.
I suppose if you feel that you've got the hang of managing it then keep on as you are, if you'd like a little more advice and guidance then I would have a chat to your GP to see if there is anyone at your local hospital who could help.
(I have to say my old consultant was v keen of fibro so he related everything to that and the new one is v keen on RA so he relates everything to that - I tend to bounce around in the middle!)
Hope this helps.0 -
Hi
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia because of pain in my wrists and ankles, blood test for RA were negative. The attitude of the medics now seems to be , tough get on with it, also been diagnosed with OA in several places.
I have tried Gabapentin ? spelling?, which did not work, now I am prescribed Pregabalin which only seems to work if taken with Co-Codamol, then I get some relief.
The FMS also causes me muscle pain from pelvis to neck and tender patches on my skin.
Hope you find something which works for you.

Hi
sorry you are suffering. I may be wrong, but the face pain sounds a bit like something I suffer from - trigeminal neuralgia. there is a UK based trigeminal neuralgia asociation, may be worth googling and having a read.
My TN is now well controlled with amitryptiline. Some people on the TNA forum are on lyrica and some on gabapenting or tegretol and some on a combination. What works for one person may not work for another so it's a bit of trial and error as we are all different.
Do you see a neurologist for your MS? If you do then mention the face pain as TN is a neuralogical disorder and I've read that people with MS can be prone to it. If you don't already have a neurologist then I would talk to the Doc about it and ask to be refferred.
I do hope you feel better soon x1 -
I think Rosebud may have a point with the suggestion of TN as the cause of your face pain.
I am currently suffering from referred (Nerve) pain in the side of my face caused by a broken filling. The Pregabalin I take for FMS does help to get rid of it.
