Hi everyone, after all my trepidation about taking Mtx I have been fine on it so far. Took a 5mg last week and 7.5 mg yesterday and so far, so good. Felt a bit nauseous and tired but nothing much. Am glad have started it as joints have flared up quite badly over past couple of weeks. Thanks to everyone who supported me in this decision.

Hi Sally, thanks for letting us know; I'm now up to 20mg a week and so far so good!
I find it impossible to tell at present whether or not it is helping. Certainly I don't seem to have improved greatly since I first started, but it seems to me that it is slowing down - that might be wishful thinking, of course. I have been able to cut down on the painkillers so, it MUST be helping in some way. When I started it I was on the max doses and I had deteriorated very quickly.
My next Rheumy appt is on the 29th. Can't wait to find out what happens!

hi Annie, thanks. How long have you been on it? It must be a good sign if you have cut down on painkillers. I'm trying not to take any as my liver results are a bit dodgy.

    Hi Sally

Thanks for keeping us posted - it's always good to hear how people are getting along with treatments.

I know it's early days, but at least you haven't woken up and found you've exploded!!!!!! Our imaginations play havoc with us in these situations, don't they?

Hope it continues well for you,
    love, Lynn xxxx

Thanks Lynn, I know it is early days but I'm taking things day by day at the moment. Everyone here has been so supportive when I was vacillating over taking it. It has really helped a lot.
    love Sally x

Hi Sally, just catching up here, I've been on Metho since the end of October........2.5 months. I reckon if it is going to work for me I should start feeling it now and like I say, I have cut down on the painkillers, but that does happen to me now and again anyway. I think I will say it is helping if I can stay on a lower dose for a few weeks.

I think some of the pain I have is nerve pain anyway and it wouldn't help with that...........well, a fortnight will tell. I'll let you know what happens.

Hi Annie, Hope it does work for you. I've got a chest infection today and have to go and get some antibiotics and sit in A&E for a blood test. One of my reservations about going on this drug was that I am very prone to this type of infection, get several a year and am worried about the consequences of that. My joints are pretty bad at the moment as well so not having a great time of it.

    Hi Sally

glad it seems to be working for you. some advice I can give is for the nausa, drink ginger beer, take the tablets after a decent size meal and also, chew gum if feeling a bit nausas!!! This seems to help settle it. i am on 15ml injec and take anti-sickness to help, but have found the ginger beer and chewing gum helps lots!!

hope it continues to go ok!!

    Hey Sally,

Hope you're feeling better soon, sounds like you're having a bit of a rough time of it. Thanks for keeping us updated with your progress to date, I am thinking of starting on Metho after my next Rheumy appt, as offered last time but I was too scared ! Just feels like a massive step but after hearing other people's experiences it gives you more confidence that the drug does work, without major side effects ! Thanks again and hope you're feeling more yourself soon ! xxx

Hi, thanks for your thoughts. I was really worried about taking Mtx too but so far, so good. Though they do say you are more open to infection because your immune system is suppressed. However, they were so good in A&E yesterday, very reassuring, knew exactly what to do etc that I felt in very good hands and a lot less worried.
I found going to the specialist nurse with a great long list of questions helpful. She answered all of them to my satisfaction so decided to go ahead. I met a friend who has RA (though I didn't know!) and she has been on it for a year with no side effects at all.
Let me know what you decide to do - send me a PM - as I am interested to hear of other's experiences.
