I have signed the petition. Some of us on here felt very strongly about this same subject a year or two ago and we got nowhere. We have to keep on, keeping on though. Hope this one gets better results than we did last time. Quite a few of us worked really hard on this forum, trying to promote the fight for heating campaign and some of us were left feeling rather disillusioned.

I will differ from Del on this.

If you want then do both, or just one, it's better than doing nothing.

All political parties look at the top 10 petitions by votes as they want to know what the voter's priorities are. The current top petition has 93,432 votes and the lowest in the top 10 has 18,036. If this petition on winter fuel benefit makes 100,000, it would, (at the moment), be easily top and therefore a priority for all MPs who are looking at ways to get votes. It will also be active until Jan 2011 and thus still be there when the next set of MPs take office.

The most likely date for the next election is 6th May 2010. Will your MP still be there after that date? Also, to have the equivalent number of letters/emails, (for 100,000 signatures), each of the 646 MPs would have to receive 155 each and inform all other MPs that they had been received.

Can I also suggest that you email the Secretaries of all your Local Constituency Parties offices and ask for their support. That way, whoever gets in will, at least, have some knowledge of your request.

I have signed petitions for both the above issues mentioned and written to my mp. Received a second letter yesterday from my MP re prescriptions and will receive another in due course. Neither would help me, if at all successful, but I am thinking of whom they would benefit. Neither petitions or letters seem to make any or much difference but I still do them because if everyone said "why bother" then no one would sign or write about anything to aid others less fortunate than themselves, would they? It does not take any time to do one or both, sitting at the pc.

Such a shame - only 15 people have signed this petition and probably are not all from this forum either, since I signed 2 days ago................ :(

    I sincerely hope this improves.

I can't work at the moment as I was a Support/Care worker with alot of `moving and handeling' and diving through out the length and breadth of Oxfordshire. I loved it although I was in high demand 24/7.
So, I have no other choice but to `retrain' my way in management and law which will take time as I am doing this P/T, but its better than `breeding carboard boxes for M&S via REMPLOY' - have a look at the ADP site that specialises in support for disabled professionals and students. heather xx

Well, as usual, we didn't get anything did we?

I shall write to my MP, but as he has made some gaffs on TV about Muslims state of dress, I think he will have a bit more to worry about over the next few days.

I shall write because have other issues as well.

I don't know if any of you good folk caught a peice in the Times 24/01/10 titled `Live Pigs blasted in terror attack experiments',??? Indulge me.
"Live pigs are being blown up with explosives at Porton Down, the governments secret military research laboratory, to simulate the effect of terrorist attacks on civillian targets. In a series of tests at the biological and chemical research centre in Wiltshire, 18 large pigs were wrapped in protective blankets before bombs were detonated a few feet away. The scientists allowed the pigs to bleed until almost a third of their blood was gone to see how long they could be kept alive. MPs and animal welfare groups have questioned the use of live animals in the explotions, even though the pigs were anaesthetised throughout."
Intreagued, I decided to contact an old `blue stocking' at Wiltshire as I was curious as to the size and type of pigs they used. :D
`Oh, we' re not fussey, we'll take anything thats been caught with its snout in the trough. Any suggestions ?' How about Bankers and MP's ? `Lovley'! In the wake of the Chilcot enquiry, I wanted to suggest that `artfull doger' who gave evidence on Friday but could'nt rember the name. Answers on a post card to: The head of Human resources,Porton Down Laboritories, Wiltshire.

I agree that, in a perfect world, having the heating on helps when arther is around.

In the present economic mess that Gordo has given us by 'continuing to do his job', there is absolutely no hope of assistance with higher fuel bills. Spend the money on sitting in a warm pub with a pint!

    8) Its a grin, honest!
