Hi

I am posting a couple of questions today as I have so much going through my mind and am trying to get as much info before my rheumy appoitment in 2 weeks. I never know whether something is arthritis related or not so dont want to bombard him with too many unnessecary questions,
Basically I have been told I have inflammatory arthritis in my sacroiliac joint and lower back, I find pain and stiffness eases when I exercise so try to keep as active as possible, although recently a knee injury has slowed this quite a lot.
When I do manage to get to the gym and do some exercise I am getting a shooting pain through my chest, I feel like I am having a heart attack and find it very difficult to take a deep breathe. It doesnt go when I stop but if I continue it tends to ease off and go. The pain goes through the middle of my chest and also behind my ribs in my back. Should I be worried about this??

Also, over xmas I had a huge flare up which lasted weeks and tried various methods to get pain relief, one of the ws visiting an osteopath. She examined me and asked details etc and then told me that my lower back was too stiff and she didnt feel comfortable manipulating the area. She asked me if the type of inflammatory arthritis I had was Ankylosing spondilitis. I told her that I didnt know which type. I have looked online and have noticed that all my symptoms relate to AS. Could it be this? Also, wouldnt that have shown up on the blood test as the website explained people with this have a HLA gene????
Should I ask my rheumy this?
Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Baiey
I would definitely telkl the rheumy about the chest pains - I know they go off but there may be a reason connected to the arthur. Often things dont seem connected but they are...like the red eye malarky with RA.
As for the AS - they may not rourtinely do that test - they were prob aonly looking for inflamatory markers. So you could ask for it.
Hey good luck with your apt.

    Hi Bailey,

First (((( )))) and I am sorry your going through the mill just now.

I totally agree with Toni tell your Rumo everything. I do that with mine and he picks out the bits he can help with and actually suggests who to see with the other bits.

I also have a fair bit of oa and pa in my spine and I get that kind of pain, especially carrying bales. But I know mine and have had it for a while. I know you see the Rumo in a couple of weeks but really you might be better just popping into your gp and get the once over.

Your right about the stiffness and your right to move it but Flower you mustn't do what makes it so painful for a min. I don't understand flares I do know my pa isn't under control and the pain I have is my sternum and ribs. They did a blood test and it said it wasn't AS.

Actually thinking abut it do a list with all your questions on it and make a double appointment with your gp if poss. I think you need some clarification and they will be able to tell you. You take care of your self. Luv Cris x

Any type of shooting chest pain when exercising hard could be heart related.

I would suggest that rather than wait to see your Rheumy, you make a GP appointment and go and explain about the chest pains. It is better to find out now rather than sit and worry. The doc shouldn't be bothered about you wanting to see them.

Hi, to be honest the people at my gym dont really understand. When I told them I had arthritis they just said ' oh I got that too in my knees'.... they havent but think arthritis is just aches and pains.
