Hi Mike,
I am sorry Hazel is so up set. A ((( ))) for her as well. Its very difficult to know what to say about the discharge. She has Fibro and that does come under the Rumo dept in this end of the UK but sadly Osteo doesn't. Here thats a orthopedic problem.
With Hazel I think maybe talk it through with your doctors and with you maybe you could ask to see the pain clinic? They are the ones who deal with long term pain and again here they do it so well. I really hope something can be sorted for you both soon and I think your gp is the best option, there must be other ways of being helped. Luv Cris x0 -
hazel (((hugs ))) to u get on to doc and find out what going on they should at least of notified u it bad manners other wise go to different rhummy that one no good. i some times think they forget what it is like to suffer and have no answers. i am lucky gp is great do not know what would do with out her. you have to wait for app. but well worth it. as for your pain is it the cold and damp making it worse. give mike a cuddle he needs one bless him u got him worried have u got wheat bags on the painfull parts or cold packs if u think it swelling causing itval0

that is awful, poor hazel and poor you. sorry i cannot offer much advice, but i would certainly see you gp and possibly see if you can a referral to another rheumy? if possible.
i think it is also worth talking to pals team at your hospital to make a complaint. they cannot just discharge you and leave you both in pain.
it makes me so cross that they can treat you like this.

Hi Mike
What a day
Poor poor Hazel
They shouldn't just discharge either of you like that! Is that the way it happens in ireland?? We get a note to take to receptionists with when he next wants to see us - 3 months 6 months etc.
I think you have to get back to the GP to be referred again as soon as you can.
Best wishes to you all
Love

Hi Mike
I agree with Toni, over here things are not done in quite the same way that they appear to be done where you are. Peeps here would not stand for it and there would be far too many complaints and the hospitals would have to pull their socks up.
Perhaps some letters of compliant should be sent off. Telephone calls for complaints are not effective unless they are followed up by a letter. Complaint telephone calls are instantly forgotten about.
Give Hazel a gentle hug and say you will sort it for her. You usually do. Give the gp a call and say what has happened. Ask your gp where to complain to if the procedure is different in your neck of the woods from us.
Good luck and I hope you can cheer Hazel up soon.
Love to you all

Hi Mike
I am so sorry to hear what's happened with
Hazel's rheumatology appointment.
It doesnt seem right at all.
You do need to get straight on to your GP and
ask for a quick referral and I would be phoning
the rheumatologist's secretary to find out why
Hazel has been discharged without any notification.
Hopefully she can get seen quickly and in the meantime
give her some reassurance and some hugs.
Hope it works out well for you.

Hi I'm sorry for poor Hazel, its very hard to find out just like that. The GP will re-refer her, I'm sure.
Osteo is treated by the GPs here, and if you look at the NICE standards, I think it says something like, 'unless the GP cannot manage the pain' or something along those lines, that OA will not be referred to a Rheummy. Its all to do with the wretched NICE standardst the Government set and its all a load of #####. I was seen by the Rheummy for my carpel tunnel, diagnosed and discharged, with a letter asking my GP to refer me the the hand clinic at Plastics! The confusion is still going on and I've lost 3 months, as they sent my GP wrong information. I have a copy of the letter, given to me by my GP.
You don't want to hear all my problems at the moment, but, I can assure you that poor Hazel isn't the only one, I am in the same boat. Give her a hug from me and say shes not alone and we will sort it out in the end. Love Sue xxxx0 -
Hi,Im sorry to hear that Hazel is struggling with the pain, then to have this dumped on top of her too.
I have OA & Fibromyalgia, so i understand the pain that Hazel is suffering from.
I was under a rhymy until december, then i was discharged to the care of my pain clinic consultant. But i was told this at the appointment. He said there was nothing more he could do for me.
I would ask for a referal to pain clinic if your Gp agree's they cant help Hazel any further. But i certainly wouldnt let it drop, she should have been told that she was being discharged at her last appointment.
I hope you can get her some help & soon.
Take care

Mike this happened to me once. After waiting a year for an appointment I phoned up to discover I had been discharged.Nobody knew why.Didnt see a GP for a refferel they just put me back on list.Of course then had to wait months before got seen again.During this time my hip deteriorated a lot.
Not had a problem with appointmants since and have carried on as normal.

Hi Mike
Sorry to hear Hazel is in so much pain. I don't think your GP has told you right. It may get easier from time to time but my understanding of it is it never goes away completely.
I have fibro and OA and like Hazel often in a lot of pain in many parts of the body. Pain killers do help take the edge of it but it never takes it away so I guess it is just something we have to try and manage the best we can.
The problem is when I have to take strong painkillers along with Tramadol and amitriptyline I am always so tired. I know you said before how Hazel can fall asleep over a meal and I can totally understand how she feels.
It must be so difficult when you are both so ill as you are and have to think about a young family as well, my heart goes out to you.
Big hugs to you all and look after one another

Hi, Your GP dosn't sound very caring to say the least! I have oa, the pain can be really bad and limit what I can do. ra is also a painful disease, but you can't really compare them and say which is worse to have. Some people have RA and resond well to the treatment, so they can live ordinary lives, others are very ill indeed, as we see from people who come to this site. OA is very painful and can make the joints so stiff its hard to move and even makes walking impossible. Personally I don't believe that you can compare the two problems and say which is worst, it depends on the level each disease reaches and the ammount of pain suffered.
I hope that Hazel is feeling a bit better and that these posts are cheering her up! Lots of love to you both, Sue xxx0 -
Hi, glad that Hazel is feeling a bit brighter, I hope that she can sort it all out and find someone to help love Jaspercatxx0
