    Dear Joan

Well, that is very disheartening news indeed to hear from your gp about your back. Is your GP a back consultant? I would have thought, unless your gp knows everything there is to know about backs, you should be referred to someone who does, or a chiropracter perhaps, or referred for sessions of acupuncture or referral to a pain back clinic.

I was saddened to read your posting - surely there is something that can can be suggested, to help you.

    Love

    Hi Joan,

Poor you! My back goes into spasm sometimes - it's horrendously painful! Usually taking strong painkillers for a few days, plus lots of heat pads and hot baths usually does the trick for me. If not, physio or a visit to an osteopath can work wonders. Could you possibly see a different GP, or ask him/her to refer you for physio? You could also do with a more definite diagnosis of the cause of the 'chronic back pain' I would think.
My GP took a little persuading that I needed physio last time, but it was certainly worth nagging at him in the end. You could also find out if there's a Pilates class near you - you'll be given gentle and very controlled exercises to stretch and strengthen your back muscles - it's made a lot of difference to me, so it may be worth a try for you.
    Hope things get better soon,
    Naomi

    Hi Joan
You need to take your painkillers! Try the heat pad and rest. Once that spasm settles you should be able to move more. You go swimming and to the gym regularly don't you??
Did you GP suggest x-rays or physio?
    Take care

    Hi Joan,

Bless you its not nice when they tell you there is nothing to do. I wonder though if she could refer you to the pain people? I think you went before actually? Mine has huge spams in the neck and the lumber but the lumber I sort of know very well and stretching it out helps mine.

I honestly think sh could help you a bit more there. I know the way you walk is not helping it but I really think she could help with either muscle relaxants or trigger points. I may just be lucky and have a very good pain clinic consultant but just hope she will help you a little bit there. Hi o Sue, Luv Cris xx
