    Hi

I have an inflammatory arthritism. Namely a type of seronegative sponfdyloaropthy, am currently being treated for what they think is AS. From what I can understand it is neither ra or oa. It doesn't carry the rf factor in the blood but have a gene called hla27. I think this is correct so far. It can effect other parts of your body not just your joint, in my case I have problems with my stoachh which I was told was ibs but now I have this they think there may be a link. It can often take years to have a specific diagnosis and quite often peope don't have a formal doiagnosis as it is not possible to know exactly which type as there are severall. Hope this helps. X

Hello, Its so tricky and frustrating, sometimes, getting a diagnosis for arthritis. Its not unususal for people to have to wait a while and have scans, bloodtest and things before you know for sure. It sounds as if you are getting somewhere, though. Have you discussed this with your doctor and sorted out what medication you need to take? Your GP may be able to help you understand the problem you have. The Helpline at the top of this page is a good way of getting information. They will point you in the direction you need to go to find out what you can and send you any leaflets that they think may help you.
    Good luck  Love Sue

mine was referred to for years as 'some sort of inflammatory arthritis' by my consultant, with the added comment that it wasn't worth trying to work out exactly what type it was as he would treat the symptoms not the label anyway.

Mine later was given the label of Rheumatoid Arthritis, but that doesn't mean that yours would def. be that.

I think they try to work out what works drug wise rather than stick a label on too soon.

Hi, I have seronegative inflammatory arthritis too. If you type 'seronegative' into the search box above right you will find a fact sheet that tells you all about it.
there are also a lot of threads on here about it.

I agree with Wonkylegs. I have Juevenile Inflammatory Arthritis which is stretching it a bit at 43 years old(!), but as the treatment is pretty much the same for all types, not much point in renaming it.

RA is a type of 'inflammatory arthritis'

'Inflammatory arthritis' can be used to refer to RA or any number of other versions of arthritis

if I understand things right that is!

    Hi Jen
Yes Wonky is right. When they don't know they call it oinflamatory arhtritis and I beleive that your rheumatoid factor is probably ok at the mo. This can change in the future. All being well they will treat you the same either way.
