Hot Head?

My head is HOT for hours at a time. The sweat (sorry, perspiration), just pours down the back of my neck and down the front into my eyes. It is so bad sometimes, it looks like I've just washed my hair.
Then I go cold and have to turn the heating up. It's is driving me mad. Is this normal?
I have been through the menopause and out the other side and know it's not that.
Does anyone else have this problem? If you do, could you please let me know which type of arthritis you have. Is it possible to have both???
Steph.

Hello, It sounds like a fever to me. Have you taken your tempriture when it happens? I think that you ought to see your GP, unless it goes quickly.

Sorry, not more helpful, but take care!

    Hi Sue,
I think your right. It feels like a fever to me. I did take my temperature but it was normal.
The reason I am asking is that I heard somewhere that you get hot sweats and cold chills with RA but I was diagnosed with OA.
    So, as usual, am confused.
    But thanks for your input.
    Hope you feeling OK.

Steph, I get this, too and have sat here in the evenings all this perishing winter with the window open and heating off (in this one room) as I am sweating so much. I wouldn't mind so much if it did something constructive (like sweat off a lot of weight) but it just dehydrates me and disappears.

I'm on steroids and I've always been told it's because of that; but I'm beginning to think that a lot of Arfur meds have this particular side effect as the steroid dose I am on is so low now that I shouldn't be getting any side effects at all! I'm going to ask Rheumy next week if it's the MTX, 'cos it's getting ridiculous.

    Annie,
We sound like a couple of book-ends. Your problem is identical to mine by the sound of it.
We only have a small flat and my poor OH sits there with his had and scarf on 'cos I have the balcony door open all day - right through all that snow too! I even have to sleep in the living room because of it.
I too wished I could lose some weight with it. But NO of course not no such luck.
The only difference between us is that I don't have a Rheumy and I don't go to see my GP either.
I suppose I will have to go and see him at some stage but absolutely hate doctors (with good reason I might add)
If you do get any information on this problem I would LOVE to hear from you about it.
As for meds, I am only on painkillers (Co-Dydramol) and try not to take too many of those if I can help it.
Thank you very much for answering my post,
Please let me know if you find out anything won't.

Don't worry, Steph, I'm going to take this up with the Rheumy and with my GP too as I don't feel I can go on like this any longer. I do know of two other people with the same problem, but like me they are on steroids and have been told the same thing.

The only thing I can think of is that it is something to do with the Arfur itself - is it a symptom? Before I see anyone I'm going to do a little looking on the Net.

By the way, how old are you? I'm 65 and long past the days of hot flushes!

    Hi again Annie,
Sorry I'm posting this a bit late as I was asleep all afternoon.

I'm 65 today and 66 tomorrow, so take your pick. (When is your birthday)

We really are a couple of book-ends!! I couldn't stand it anymore and so posted on here about it.

No one else seems to have answered yet. Surely we can't be the only two people with this problem.

By the way, do you also get cold chills?

    God bless.
    Steph x

PS. Do you happen to know what "Sticky;" at the top of the page means?

Last bit first - 'sticky' means it will stay at the top and not move down, usually used for petitions and long term questions etc. Used by the mods.

I won't be 66 till October, but there really isn't much difference between us, is there? It's my eldest daughter's birthday today! She lives in New Zealand, so all cards and prezzies get posted out.

    Have a lovely birthday tomorrow.

Inflammatory arthritis, no matter what title they put to it, is an autoimmune condition and unfortunately I've got more than one of those! But am asking the Rheumy when I see her on Friday and the following week I see my doctor and I'm going to stress to both of them that this is getting silly and see if there is anything they can do.

Have you tried all the herbal remedies? My doc is very good on these and in the past she has suggested I try red clover leaf and sage, but unfortunately neither of them worked for me. I know they do help some lucky peeps, but I'm not one of them.

I wouldn't worry about the napping! I went for a nice lie-down and 2pm and woke up at 4.30!

We seem to have a lot in common. My Son is in Australia and his birthday is in October!
Will keep my eye on this thread so we can talk again.
P'raps we should keep in touch about this on the PM system.
    What do you think?

    Hi there Annie,
Just been looking through some of the posts.
I don't know if you have read it yourself but if not, the title is "Absolutely Shattered" on the "Living with Arthritis" page.
They are talking about hot sweats!
A couple of people (sorry, I'm terrible with names), have noticed that they get this problem more when they have used artificial sweetners,
It's pretty interesting I think and quite possibly could be contributing to my own problem.
Thought you might be interested to have a look.
    Sincerely
    Steph

Yes, have seen it, Steph. I know mine isn't down to that - I do use a sweetener, but mine is a sugar-based one and has no aspartame.
My problem started before I used sweeteners in any case, but I did change in case it was aggravating it, has had no effect.

    Annie,
Sorry not to have got back to you before but I'm with Virgin and have been forcibly off-line since 4,00 am.!!!
It's just come back on so getting this message in quick before it goes off again.
Thanks for the input about sweeteners
It would be nice if we could get to the bottom of this problem.
I will be doing a few experiments on myself.
    Take care

Don't worry Steph - I pop in and out all the time due to domestic circumstances - we have a house move coming up and I can only do what I can do, if you see what I mean.

When I need a rest (or am forcibly made to take a rest) I log in for a bit of light relief and interest!

Incidentally, of the herbal remedies, peeps I know have said that the sage extract is mostly better than the red clover leaf. There is a homeopathic remedy too, which is supposed to be good, but I couldn't find it anywhere at the time and have since forgotten the name which is a very odd one. Will try to find it for you.
