I had my 1 dose 2 Saturdays ago and had Nausea all week and On the Thursday night i was Vomiting and felt awful all day Friday.

Took my 2nd dose This Saturday and had Nausea again.Last night i started Vomiting again then this morning i got up to take my son to school and was getting really breathless and had no energy.

My friend had to take my son as i couldn't even get dressed.

Phoned NHS direct and the woman could hear i was having difficulties breathing but thinks i just have a bug and getting myself worked up with is causing the breathlessness.

When i talk i get out of breath and if i get up and walk i have to sit back down as i feel i cant get enough breath. And feel alittle light headed

Anyone else had this and do you think it is the MTX?

    Hi Jen,

I honestly think you might be better to see your gp about this. It could be an infection but it best to get it checked out. I hope it soon stops for you and well could you let us know please? You take care and I hope they can sort it for you. ((( ))) Cris

    Hi Jen,

Good luck and just a thought breath into your hands for a while or better still if you got a paper bag breath into that for a couple of mins, if you are breathing too fast that will really help you. I really hope you can get it sorted and if I say try and stay calm please don't hit me  ((( ))) Cris x

You seem to have had a bad reaction to the MTX unless you have some alternative problem which you need to see your gp about.

Personally, I have had only one bad week whilst taking my MTX which is in injection form.

There could be all kinds of underlying reasons why you have had the reaction you have and should see your gp asap.

I have Phoned Doc he just said to take it easy for a few days and Ring Rheumatoly dep to see weather i should continue the MTX.

He said i could go see him after 4 today but if am breathless walking around the house then theres no chance of me getting to the docs.

Ive had my brother here with me today and my mum is on her way here.

If i feel any worse later think i will just take a trip the hosital.

Thanks for all your replies x

Hi Jen, the side effects you are describing match those of one of my cousins, she too had the extreme nausea and sickness after each dose of mtx and ended up being taken off it as it obviously did'nt suit her. May i suggest you contact your rheumatology dept and have a word with them now to be on the safe side.

Hi Rheumy dep just phoned me back and said the vomiting and breathlessness wont have anything to do with the MTX as i took it Saturday so said to see my GP as she thinks am just coming down with something.

But the side effects say breathlessness can be due to the MXT causing inflammation of the lung?

Think i will just have to go the docs see what he thinks. x

hi Jen, I would go to the docs or the hospital just to be on the safe side. When I had a chest infection they took bloods to check and an x-ray - I went to the out of hours doc and they referred me to A & E.
Let us know how you are.

    Hi Jen,

When I first started Mtx I had a delayed reaction with side effects as I take it on a Tuesday and on the Friday I started vomitting. I told my consultant and he said it was unusual but didn't say it was impossible.... he lowered the dose for me as I was responding well to the drug.

I knew it was Mtx that was causing me to vomit as it happened each time I increased the doseage in the beginning.

If you're unsure contact your rheumy again ....they're not always right .........unlike me  ..... just kidding

hi Jen, good that gp is taking it seriously. I don't know who you spoke to when you first rang but I know my rheum nurse, although very good, doesn't know all that much compared to the consultant. When I've wanted to change my steroid dose she has always said no and then come back to me saying the consultant has suggested so and so. She also keeps saying my flare ups are to do with being ill but there is no pattern as far as I can see.
Hope you get things sorted soon.

    Hi Jen

Are you taking your folic acid atthe right times after your dose of MTX
I take mine every day except the day I do my MTX injection. The Folic Acid is suppose stop the side affect. I do sometimes get a couple of nausea attacks but they are cushioned by the folic acid

As well as the folic acid, as Joy mentioned, are you on anti-metics (anti-sickness) from your GP? I found these quite useful till the side effects settled down.

    Hi Jonny,

We have lots of positive posts about Mtx ....I think it's a great drug if it works for you and it certainly works for me. Maybe if you put Methotrexate into the Search at the top of the page you'll read alot of good reports about it.
