Taken mtx on Monday after a two week break and have bad flare up over past two days. I'm trying to remember whether the nurse said that might happen when I first went on it. Has anyone else had this? Had to go up on steroids to 7.5 mg last week as bad then too but they should have kicked in by now. Ankles and wrists v painful.

Hi Sally.
Sadly things take time sometimes to work. I just take sulfa and the side effects to that got me for a good 6 weeks and the benefits........ well ....... not sure reallyI hope things soon settle for you and you get rid of some of the pain. ((( ))) Cris x

I usually find that if I miss a dose of MTX I can certainly tell, and If I have to miss two then it does take a while for the joints to recover.
MTX is lost from the body fairly quickly so there is not so much floating round your system in the week that you miss .... so for me the second week is always worse.
Sorry I can't be any more help other than to say take it easy and wait and give your joints time to improve.
annoying, frustrating ... I know ...... but it hopefully will get better as the MTX builds up again.
good luck!0 -
Thanks everyone. The only thing I would say is that had only two doses of Mtx before I had to stop, not long enough to have started working by all accounts. Or maybe it was starting to work.....a bit soon though.0

Hi Sally - I got a bad chest infection a couple of weeks ago and everything has flared up!
Improving now and I am back to my 20mg MTX this week.
Things can only get better (I hope).
