wrist splints

My gp has recommended I buy a brand of wrist splint called F-t-r- (guess i can't say here but you would know if you had them!) I can find them on the internet but in beige. Now, I am not a beige kind of person, even though the fashion world is telling us it is THE colour this spring. I would like black ones. I've found them on -m-z-n in the states but triple the price with shipping. Does anyone know where I can get them here?

Thanks, that's helpful as don't want to spend money on something that might be uncomfortable. I saw some pink ones on one site but really don't know if they are the appropriate as they don't have the metal plates in them.

Hi sally
im so with you on the beige thing
when i first got my splints i put a thread on here called pimp my splint, not sure if you would still be able to get the thread up as it was months ago but basically people gave me loads of ideas to do up my beige splints.
i went with a tattoo sleeve that i sometimes wear over the splint and when its cold i wear stripy hand warmers over the top (they are like mittens without the top part you put your fingers in).
good luck with getting different coloured splints but if not do them up yourself0 -
well done lynn, i didnt know how to get it or where it was :roll:0

Hi,
My rheummy arranged for me to get mine from the OT, and they are free and they give you the size you need, but the best part is, they didn't cost anything! Biege I'm afraid! They can be quite expensive, I know my hairdresser popped into the chemist next door, when she had a problem doing my hair, and she got 1 for £16!!!! It wasn't my hair that made her wrist bad!!!

hi Sue, I don't think I'll get them as my hosp says they don't recommed I use them!! But my gp thinks they will help me in the mornings when I'm having a flare up but she can't give them on prescription. Guess will have to fork out myself.

Wow I feel kinda lucky then! I got my splints from my OT and they are nice pretty black ones! (pity the same cant be said for my monsters of night splints!) That might have been however because when she was trying some for size they were beige and she may have seen the horrified look on my face! I really didnt mean to look quite so horrified but I am only 25 (23 at the time) and all I could think was........what are they going to go with?!
I definately would also say be careful with the size, when I got my first pair they seemed massive and low and behold 2 weeks later they were fitting like a glove (pardon the pun!)

Hi, Thats a bit mean, mine told me to only wear them when I needed to for pain and then just for an hour or so, otherwise they can weaken the muscles, I try to not wear mine, but if my hands and wrists are very bad, I find a rest in the splints for an hour makes them feel a lot less painful. I also wore them when I had to go out in the icey snowy weather as I thought the metal bar would protect my wrists if I fell over! I also used my stick! I must have looked a wreak!

Hi Sue, that's how I want to use them too. I phoned the ot department today and they referred me to physio so I might get them yet!0
