Hello all,
I have been going through a bad patch but slowly starting to regain myself very bizar got up this morning and decided i wanted to get on. I have found a volunary position just a couple of hours for a couple of days a week.
I would love todo it its somthing different before i started my a levels id considered going into the field (marketing). But im worried about committing to it after my recent bad run of health and also really worried that it will cause me to have flare up and then stopping.
Anyone got any words of wisdom

Hi,
Why don't you give it a try? Are they aware of your health problems, if they are and they have offered you the position they obviously want your contributions. Plus you had mentioned on another thread about going back to work at some point, this will be experience and something to add to your cv.
I really do think it's worth a go and if it's too much you can explain to them and maybe cut back your hours or stop.

I think it would do you the world of good somehow. It would certainly give you a lift, you would be learning something new and also, will help you take your mind off your bad health.
2 days is just enough to get into things and who knows, you may find you can handle that amount of hours. Then you have 5 days to recover. In time, if you do well, you might get a permanent job.
Give it ago.

give it a go friend
I am soon starting voluntary work
best wishes0 -
really glad you're having a slightly better time of it, mate. you've really had it rough lately, I think this sounds like a great idea. getting out and about is good for sanity! and don't be discouraged if you find you need a bit more time to recover from the flare before you can make the volunteering a regular thing. the important thing is that you have the wish to do it, so eventually you will find a way!!0

Thanks all,
Well im going to give it ago and see how it goes. If its to much at least i know i can say i gave it ago rather than wondering what if i had given it ago.
Thanks for your words of wisdom

Good for you madness, i hope you enjoy it.
i work only 9 hours a week, i get paid but i would still do it even if i didnt as i love it. ok on a bad day i struggle but on the whole it is great.
best of luck to you0 -
Hope all goes well, madness. Will keep my fingers crossed for you. Take it steady ... don't overdo it. You may finish up feeling you could shovel a mountain into a bucket ... but steady as she goes!

Hello There.
I just read your post and I think its worth you giving it a go.
I am doing a little voluntary work and I got to say it helps me , it gives me a purpose to keep going and keeps my mind off my aches and pains.
Just do a couple of hours and see how you go.
All the best

Good luck Madness.
I do voluntary work with Guide Dogs. I did puppy walk but that was too much for me, so now just board pups now and then just to keep involved. It really helps me feel part of the outside world and my supervisor knows my situation and is very understanding.
Let us know how it goes!

Hi Madness
I think it's a great idea
Well done you
I wish you all the best - just look after yourself - If it proves too much THEN you can jack it in, but hopefullyt it won't.
Very pleased for you

Hi
I would give it a go. Prepare your employers by telling them about your condition. There may be times that you are unable to work. They will probably be prepared to be flexible with your voluntary hours/timetable. Generally I find people are more reasonable if you discuss your problems with them beforehand.
Regards

I have been involved with volunteers for many years, so I know most of the problems concerning disability. You must tell them about the state of your health, as it may cause problems at the present or future time, because it affects their liability insurance. It also puts you in a position where you could be liable if anything happened.
Having got the legal niceties out of the way, then the way forward is to tell them that you are disabled and why. They can then make preparations for you to fit in with the team. This allows them to adjust your workload to suit, as the last thing that you or they want is to be overwhelmed. Even a small contribution is welcomed by most organisations and don't forget that any volunteering looks very good on your CV for the future.
If it works great. If it doesn't, then at least you have given it a try.

yes you would get a great deal from it and would take your mind off things . so long as they r aware of arther then go for it i think you will find you manage to do the couple of hours on the days you r due to do it and might even find you feel better for it good luck
