Hi, feeling down and fed up, I know why it is because I have an appt with my Rheumy on wednesday, she is very abrupt and I don't like her at all, I am also feeling a bit rough, my asthma is not too good, I am wheezy and breathless.
Trouble is when I get down I get snappy, poor Malcolm has been snapped at several times today, if I wake up feeling like this then I am not going to see her, I will end up snapping at my Rheumy too, maybe I will cheer up love Jaspercatxx

Hi, sorry I don't no your name,
Just to say how sorry I am you are feeling so down...I know what you mean how upsetting it is when the very people who are supposed to be helping you are so abrupt.
I have a GP like this, there has been times when I have come out of the surgery in tears.
Just to let you know we are here...and don't let them get you down.
You take care

Poor You.
Perhaps you ought to start to psych yourself up. You never know, she might have been feeling down herself and this next time she will be perfectly OK.
You have to keep telling yourself, it will be OK, it will be OK. Start making a list. write everything down you need to speak about and if possible, can Malcolm go with you. He could make a good spokesman.
MyOH comes with me and as he has to live with me so can soon give my consultant more of an insight as to how I am than I can do myself.
Your asthma is probably getting worse because you are getting into a bit of a state. Trying to keep yourself really busy also helps, then you will forget the appointment until the time it comes.
I have found that if my consultant can see that I am trying to help myself, he is soon on my side.
Sorry if I come over a bit bossy, but you just seemed a bit negative about it and if you don't keep your appointment, she will get the idea you don't need a rheumy anymore and you will have to start all over again. You know how difficult it is to get appts now adays.
good luck hope the ppt goes well. I'm sure it will.0 -
Oh, Jasper, I know just how you feel........my asthma is playing up big time following a severe chest infection and it is all so depressing. I long for the warmer weather!
These medics just don't realise what an effect they have on us, although I'm not sure they'd bother to change if they did........but you'd at least think they could bother to be pleasant to their patients.

Is Malcolm going with you Kim? I`m sure he will be a good influence on you. You don`t want to miss your appointment.
You know, if this person is always like this with you, to the extent that it gets you in a state before you even get there, then maybe you should be a "bit snappy", or at least let him/her know that you don`t appreciate his attitude.........Ange.0 -
Hi Kim,
Its not good wen a consultant makes you feel this unhappy. Is there anyway you can see a different one? I don't know how much hassle it would be though? Is she actually any good though cus maybe you could just tell her she is making you unhappy with her attitude if she is any good. I hope, as Ange said, Malcolm will make you go this time and I wonder if you can just tell her you don't like her attitude. I did it with a neuro but wasn't actually any good either and I have never seen him since. Anyway sending you a ((((( ))))) and a hope you wont let her worry you. Love Cris xx0 -
Hope you pick this up before you go. I've sent you a PM - hope you don't mind.

Don't know whether you got my PM. But I'm going to stick my neck out and say that, because of my situation the other day, I contacted PALS for some advice, without any detailed info. The lady told me that PALS can ensure that you see an alternative consultant - no questions asked, no recriminations. I always thought you had to do that through your GP.
Best of luck with your appt.

Hi Jasper
I don't like it when you are down.
At least you know why. Is Malcolm going with you on wednesday?? Are you reday for it? and have you got your list?
Wish i could say something to help, but maybe if you DON'T feel you get good treatment you should think about another rheumy like others have suggested.
Poor old Malcolm and poor old Jasper.
Love

Hi
Sorry to hear that you are feeling so down and fed up. Try a different tactic with your Rheumy. Upon entering say good morning and ask them how they are. I always find it throws them because they don't expect it. My mother always said that if you use a sweet tone it radiates out to those who come in contact with you and their response tends to be more positive. So, sugar instead of vinegar works all the time.
I've also discovered from over 25 years working with teenagers and adults that beginning sentences or statements with "I" achieves positive results. For example, I am not feeling too well today, I think I will have a rest ...I really would be grateful if you could make the tea etc.
Remain positive and try out these strategies. Regrettably the bedside manner of some medical professionals leaves something to be desired they are possibly more focussed on obtaining results than the individual.
I hope your mood improves. Have a rest and try out my suggestions they really do work.
Take care.

Hi, thanks for your replies, the update was that I didn't go to the visit, I have got up feeling totally exhausted, I am falling asleep sitting in the chair, the other thing I should have mentioned is that she makes Malcolm go out of the room, I am going to seek a second opinion as I really can't face seeing her, I know that she intends to keep me on MXT as the suppliers ring today and said they have 4 months worth to deliver.
Dolittle - thanks for the pm, don't mind at all, very useful actually love Jaspercatxx0 -
Hi Jaspercat
Dont know if its any consolation but the rheumatologist
I see I have the same problem with her. She is fairly new
and not a patch on the male who was there before her.
Whatever I mention re my health she says things like
'well thats nothing to do with us', or when I was querying
Psoriatic Arthur as I had terrible itching and soreness of the
skin its the other standard statement
'see your GP'. I have got to the stage where i think why
bother.
Also my blood tests, when for instance the CRP
in my blood test was showing 145 all I got was
'its probably some other inflammation in your body and
nothing to do with the RA'. :?: :?: :?:
Hope you feel better soon.

She makes Malcolm leave the room??!!
What is that about???
That's never right
Toni xx0 -
Hi Jaspercat
Maybe you need to change your Rheumy. I would be upset if the consultant made my OH leave the room.
I saw the rudest locum GP (a young man) last year when my GP was on holiday. I could have slapped him. I wrote a letter of complaint. It makes you feel miserable and unhappy when someone is so rude after all you go to these people who medical help. I cried my eyes out first then I got blooming angry.
I hope you get to see someone who is a bit nicer.
Take care, have a rest and I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Jasper,
I'm sorry you feel so tense, its horrible, I know, I get like that sometimes. My poor husband wonders what on earth hes done! I find February a depressing month, the weather is still crap and the evenings dark and it seems to have been a such a bad winter this year. Still soon be March!
I think you should change your rheummy if she makes you feel like so bad. You really need someone to listen to you and be comfortable with. Why not make some enquiries?
Take care, love Sue0 -
