HI Jo,
Well done on doing your first one!
I am sorry you had the bruise on your first one .... my first didn't happen until after a year of doing them. Apparently it is just a case of if you hit a hidden blood vessel or not. I asked if there was a way of avoiding it and they said not
Today my nurse injected into my stomach and it bled a bit, so she got me to press onto the injection site to stop too much bleeding, so this might be a tip for future.
I find that I bruise more in my stomach than I used to when I used my legs, but as the nurse now does my jabs then we use stomach and arms.
sorry not to have any bright ideas on how to avoid them, but if it is any consolation I only have had about 3 bruises in over 4 years of injections
hope the injections work for you.
hugs

PUT MINE IN THE TOP OF MY LEG SAME PLACE FOR ABOUT THREE
YEARS NOW
BUT IT GETS EASIER EVERY TIME
DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT NOW. JUST DO IT
BUT IF YOU STILL BRUISE AFTER A FEW TIMES MAKE SURE YOU GET THE THINNEST AS NEEDLE POSSIBLE.ASK PHARMACIST NICELY
I AM SURE THEY WILL UNDERSTAND,AS SOME CHARGE

I was going to suggest that. Last year my enbrel was changed from the vial format to the prefilled syringes. The prefilled syringes were making me bruise and I was getting a resistance when I injected. I spoke to my anti-TNF nurse and he said the needles are different. I had a word with my Rheumy and she put me back on the vial format - no more bruises. Apparently if you are very prone to bruising I was told you can ask for a fine needle (the same as they provide for children).
Other than that - what angle are you injecting? I find if you inject so the needle is at about 40 degrees it's easier to go through the skin and thus bruises and hurts less. Also pinch the skin and let go once the needle is in. This is what I do so I hope this helps. xxx0 -
