Well I'm now home after having my op last Friday. Every thing went well i cant believe how much more comfortable i am now, even though there is pain in my knee it is well controlled with pain killers. I am even starting to reduce them a little. I do feel very tired so i do sleep a bit during the day (that is probably the pain killers). I hope Elna and all who have just had their op are doing well. For all those waiting to go in to have one good luck you wont regret it. love to you all Dee xx

    Hi Zechariah

Please do tell us when you know the date of your operation. We would like to start a thread for you where peeps can send their best wishes and support and it does help to know that people are thinking about you.

Are you having both knees done at the same time as you previously mentioned in a posting or having one done first and then the other?

I hope you receive notification soon,

    Luv

    Dear Dee

With my first TKR I just could not raise my leg in the hospital. :x It felt like a total block of concrete. :( Then I am not sure what the physio did, but all of a sudden I could do it and there was no turning back. :o:o I nearly kissed and hugged her, I was soooooo happy. :D:D I could not thank her enough.

I have a feeling she very gently helped me raise the leg and I was then able to lower it. She did this a couple of times and all of a sudden I could do it. :D Is there anyone around that could help by doing the same for you and you may find you can suddenly manage it too.

Another hint from one of the nurses this time as I suffered constipation whilst in hospital was to eat three pears and that worked for me!! It can be any type of fruit but eat three but conference pears are excellent though.

    Love

    Dear Dee

On Wednesday I had my first physio session since being home from hospital. She gave me a couple of extra exercises to add to the ones I had already been given. This one I like. :)

Roll up a towel and place it underneath your operated knee. Starting with your heel resting on the bed, bring your foot up and straighten the knee, pressing down into the towel, hold for 10 seconds if possible, lower and repeat 10 times again if possible.

This may also help you do the leg raise.... :)

    Dear Dee

I am doing fine thank you. Slept much better last night. Still woke a couple of times but felt that the sleep I had was really deep and I had a good few hours too. So far today, not done much but feel very well mentally and happy with my progress physically. I am still getting pain and discomfort but more so at night but I feel it is lessening.

The bruising is now fading and I did have a lot of bruising that kept creeping out. I am sure that taking tha arnica this time around, has helped the bruising to clear up faster than after the last op, when I did not take the pillules.

Hope your day is going well. You will soon get there with the leg raise. Please do not get despondent, you will probably find that it will just happen :)

Interesting, you had clips, I had stitches. :) I went back to the ward to have the knots cut each end on day 8 and the stitches dissolve. It is healing up really quickly except one tiny section at the top end - but it is getting there. :)

    Love
