Hi all,

I saw my gp yesturday for my eating/depression. She suggested looking for a pool togo do exercises in coz ive only got 2 sessions left at hydro pool. So we went into my public pool today which was good value £1.50 for 2 people as i have blue badge so am free and my partner gets in half price.

So i went in first problem was getting in .. i had alot of trouble. Then the water was freezing at 26c brrr and then i couldnt get out well either because of my wrists/hands.

Anyway does anyone no if the 26c is an average for public pools? I need warmer water any suggestions? My couisen goes to the local private pool (private gym) for a cost of £29pm and says the pool is around 28c + jacuzi is hoter .. The only wat i could do this is using my DLA for it and my couisen would help me out in the pool.

Any advise/opinions?

Thank you

x

    Hi madness!
brrrr!!! no wonder you were cold! 26c??? would not do for me either...

I don't know what the 'average' temp is but I know that I need 31c to feel comfy in the water.
Seems a good idea to go swimming though...good exercise and it takes the pressure off joints etc..... but getting in and out of 'traditional' pools is difficult with sore hands, wrists..

Are there any swimming pools near you that have graduated slopes to get into the water, rather than stairs? would that help?

    Hi Madness

Not sure if your hydro pool would do the same but my local one at the hossie has open sessions over lunchtimes which anyone can book. They are pricey though at £5 a half hour visit. It might be worth asking them for advice.
I have really missed going since my hydro sessions ended and like you couldn't stand the cold water at the public pools. Hope you do find somewhere.
    take care

    Hiya,

Thanks for your replies! I know 26c was freezing was better off in my bath at home!! All of the local pools are the traditional get in/out of i basically fell in and my partner had to push me out!

I shall ask my physio if the pool is open for public, so to speak at any time although its not been mentioned to me since ive been going.

Hi i don;t know were you live but i live in Liverpool and have found that some pools have a pool for little children and the pool has to be warm the one i am going to try out has one of these pools and they let you use it also it has the temperture up on the wall which is 30 degrese, my sister who suffers with fybromyalgia went and said it was nice and warm she said it was like getting into your bath at home, so if i was you ask around your local pools to see if they have one of these pools, i hope this helps you, let me know how you get on good luck. hi madness
i thought that 27 was the lowest a pool should be but obviously im wrong, i cancelled my Gym membership cos pool was far to cold, it said it was 27 but who knows.
anyway as someone else said the kids pool is normally warmer than the adult pool maybe phone around pools near to you to see who has the warmest one.
    hope you find one

I've not been in a pool for years i probably wouldn't be able to cope if it's too cold.

I have the same problems with the pools, even the children's pool here isn't warm enough for me. The minute I step in I get spasms in my legs and feet.

As we are moving soon I am hoping that I will be able to find a proper hydro pool in our new location. Swimming is something I would have liked to have done for a long time but can't.
