A Horrible Two Weeks!

Hi everyone, havn't been on here much the past couple of weeks as it seems I am having a flare which has really taken hold of me.An hour after going to bed my hands, arms and legs get really painful and stiffen up so much that I can't get out of bed without help.I've been sleeping in the spare room for two weeks so O/H can get a good nights sleep as he has to get up for work at 5.30am and I was keeping him awake.Last night ,or I should say early hours of this morning, the pain was so severe I just had to try and get out of bed, don't know what happened,my legs seemed to buckle under the pain and I went crashing to the floor. Couldn't get up so called to O/H.Unfortunately,he's deaf in one ear and was sleeping on his 'good' ear so couldn't hear me.It took me almost 30 mins before I could lift myself up and back to the edge of the bed.Pain has eased off a bit during today but it will return again tonight.I've tried to ring the rheumy nurse but so far my call hasn't been returned.I was hoping perhaps a short course of steroids would help like they did last year, although my own GP was reluctant to prescribe them again and I think it will be down to the consultant to say whether I can go back on them.I'm still on Hydroxy,Naproxen and Omeprazole but they havn't havn't helped with this flare.Has anyone else been refused steroids even if they have helped in the past? And can you take steroids while taking Hydroxy? Ooh, I'm sorry I can't answer any of your questions but really hope you feel better very soon!! All I can think of is does your GP know how bad you are at the moment - can they push anything through for you? So sorry can't help more, thinking of you, Josie x0

You can't go on like this Breane, you need help.
Please phone the Rheumy nurse again and keep phoning till they come back to you. Sometimes they don't get back with urgency 'cos if you're quiet they think you're getting better without their help.
It's time to make a nuisance of yourself, I'm afraid.
Let us know how things go.

Hi Breane
What a nuisance all this is - not only being in pain, but seeming to get no where with rhuemy appointment. Kinda feeling the same. I am now in my 4th week off work which is all down to my RA - my GP has been brill and has rung the rhuemy department asking for me to be seen. They say they have had lots of staff off and are also trying to catch up on appointments since we had the snow (I live in Dorset and didn't see any here!!!!) - so still waiting. GP has now faxed my consultant and asked him to see me rather than the nurse specialist. They have stopped my anti TNF's, which seem to be causing the prob. Am really fed up - got no energy and feel awful, joints ache and don't know why. Had short course of steriods which didn't do much. Breathing is being troublesome - sorry moan, moan, moan and I was replying to back you up!! and all I have done is off load.
Why is it all such a battle??? On top of that I am worried about work, as although I have worked for the Council for 10 years I had just started a new post and there is so much development work to be done and someone new is due to start working with me soon, and I'm really not up to going back yet... Totally fed up...

Oh Breane
I am sorry I wonder if your hydroxy needs to go back up??
all being well the rheumy nurse will get you some steroids. It's been a while since you had them so i'm sure that would be ok.
I think you might need to have th eold man a bit nearer eh? even if it disturbs him?
Good luck
Hop you post soon to tell us you have got some meds
Love

Thank you all for your support. Just an update as the rheumy nurse rang me this morning. It seems I'm in a severe flare and the meds aren't working. She is going to have a word with a doctor at the hospital as it appears my rheumy consultant is away on holiday and once she's spoken to someone she will get back to me.She thinks I will need another med added to what I'm taking at present.I did ask about a short course of steroids again as a 'quick fix' and she said that might be one option or a steroid jab in the bottom!! Because the pain is in the ankles, knees, hands, wrists, arms, shoulders and neck all at once, she said it must be a severe flare. Not sure if she will be able to get back to me this week, all depends if she can get info from another doctor.
Hi Toni,my Hydroxy has been put back up to two a day but even that hasn't helped.Hope I can get it all sorted before the caravan season starts next month. Hope all is well with you. Breane.0 -
