    Hi Alli

When I had my first O T visit he asked what difficulties I had, in my case the stairs - I didnt have a bannister, so he arranged for a banister on either side to be fitted, also needed help getting up the steps (my house is built into side of a hill) to get out of my garden to the car, so I got a rail fitted there, grab rails for getting in and out of the door etc. I did tell him I had difficulty getting on and off the toilet (and so was provided with a raised toilet seat and rail), but I did not have to demonstrate my difficulty for that or anything else. I found my O T visit very helpful, got stuff to help me in the shower and into the bath, equipment to help me in the kitchen etc,

My O T also provided me with splints for my wrists knees and ankles. He also gave me some good advice on how to protect my joints. He also filled in a form for me to apply for a blue badge so I could park in diabled parking. All in all the visit was highly successful.

What I would do is think of any difficulties you have and then tell the O T, who then should provide you with equipment or advice to help make your life easier.

    Hi,
They came to see me a few years ago. Didn't have to 'prove' anything to them. They gave me the splints, jar openers etc. and they also suggested things ... like the holders for keys that would prevent wear and tear on my wrists. They were really good.
