Just wanted to say I had a 1st appointment yesterday with the OT department in my hospital. The OT was great, she was a specialist in Rheumatology and really listened, understood and was informative and helpful. I've now got new splints for my hands, and a resting splint which she made there and then. I go back next week for some exercises and helpful do's and don'ts.

Hi Rita
It's great you had such a helpful OT appointment and were given splints that should help with the pain in your hands.
Did you try out the resting splint last night? it takes a bit of getting used to but well worth persevering!
How's work these days?

hi rita, what is a resting splint? I was given normal ones that my consultant said I could also wear at night. As I said in my other post to you, very comfortable and unbelievable I've managed so long without. Got the OT coming tomorrow so might talk to her about splints as well.
All very helpful info!0 -
Hi everyone, nice to see you all and hope you are all doing ok?
Dorcas work is going grand at the moment, you know some days are more difficult than others but I'm happy. I've got this old constant head cold but after reading one of the threads on here, I'm going to get some Vit. C and take some honey and lemon. I did try out the resting splint last evening and it was very comfortable and really did help my hand to relax. I'll try it overnight tonight.
Rosy Red good luck with your OT assessment, hope she's as nice as mine was. I've got a stool for the shower and a rail for my bed from the OT when I was in hospital, both are a great help.
Sally, they draw around your hand then mould some plastic/material of unkown origin around it and then it hardenes. You velcoro it to your hand and it keeps it in a really relaxed and good anatomical position. I'll get the other hand done next week. Definately worth getting I'd say.rita

Hiya, I have just replied to a lady who has had difficulty in getting a pair of wrist splints. I suggested she get her consultant to refer her to o/t. Like you my ladies in o/t couldn't do enough - great stuff

I'm really glad it went well.
I had my first OT appt on Wednesday too! I was very nervous but it was soooo helpful and the lady was just lovely. I'm having a few more sessions to complete the assessment. She referred me for a weekly hydrotherapy group, which my GP/rheumy must medically clear me for before I can start. I got lots of information to read too.

Hi Rita, sounds good, might ask for it. Must say having splints on last night made a lot of difference today, not nearly so achey but it could be the steroid injection kicking in of course!0
