I last saw my R.A consultant in Nov 2009. I had automatically booked another appt for June, which was the usual gap, and I get to see Rheummy nurse in between consultants appts.
First the appt was moved to July but today I have received a new date for October. That is an 11th month gap. I do know that there are many new peeps awaiting diagnosis and first appts, and I would not like to be the cause of delay for their treatment as I am more stable nowadays, but I feel 11 months is a long time between appts.
I am still waiting for the results of my ankle X-ray from Nov( although I will ask at myNurse appt this week) as my ankle is definately causing me lots of pain.If it is damaged then a delay could be problematic.
Should I kick up a fuss about this?
Best wishes to you all
Elizabeth

    Hi Elizabeth,

Maybe you should ring up and point this out to someone especially as your ankle is bothering you. The other thing you could ask for is a cancellation so long as you can take up an appointment at short notice.

    Hi Elizabeth

I would kick up a bit of a fuss in a polite way - that is such a long time to wait. I would point out to them how many times your appointment has been shifted further on into the year. There is no guarantee they will not do this again, either but that is beside the point. It would seem more appropriate to talk to your consultant about your ankle rather than your nurse other than mentioning it to her. You also do need the xray result. The end of the year seems far too long a wait for you because of the ankle deterioration.

I agree with Elna you should make a fuss. Who knows what can happen in 11 months.

Definitely make a fuss. You have every right to ask to be seen sooner....after all, you didn't change the original appointment and as you've now got increasing pain in your ankle it doesn't seem reasonable for you to wait that length of time. Can do no harm to ask?

let us know how you get on. Irisx

My rummy has moved mine twice and I havent yet been diagnosed. I did call and left a message and said this was unaceptable and they offered me another. Yeh a few weeks later then the previous date but not 2 months later which they wanted it to change to. So I angree with others, give them a call and let them know its not ok.

    Hope it goes ok

Okay I think I will call them. I guess the first appt was changed due to summer holiday entitlement and the second was prob changed for the same reason but I wonder if they just moved the peeps from that one day and moved us to the back of the queue!

I will ring as 11 months is a very long time and I particularly want to know what is wrong with my ankle.

I am fortunate to be coping well and dont want to delay treatment for anyone waiting diagnosis like Claire. It just goes to show how busy they Rheumatologists are!

Thankyou all of you for your advice and I will let you know what happens

    Thankyou so much all.......

My appointment has been changed to 10th June(week after the first original appointment). It was a nice helpful receptionist
.I am overbooked but I only want to talk about my x-ray results and where to go from here. My foot is uncomfortable at night and seems to be getting worse. My R.A is stable for the time being so shouldnt be reviewing any medication.

    Thankyou all for your advice.

Hi, its so annoying when they keep canciling appointments,
I have not seen my specalist since last july, after phoning rumatiod nurses several times i asked my gp to write to the specalist, which he has now done, i was supposed to start Anti tfn injections in december, but as usual my appiontment got canceled.
When i last spoke to the specalist about shifting appointments around, he explained that he was very annoyed to hear that, he told me that it is happening a lot, but he says its nothing to do with him, its down to appionment desk.
Well i have heard all the excuses, i even complained to pals, which eventualy they did sort something out but it is constantly happening.
When i telephoned my gp out because i was in so much pain, his answere was oh we will look at your action plan, what flaming action plan, are they all brain dead or what.
Well its not them suffering is it, the gp eventualy sent the chemist around to my house with morphine patches.
You would say great! some pain relief, but no they did not help that much, thats beside paracetomol and dydrocodine and tramadol, do i rattle when i walk loll, well the hips completely gone south, need a new hip, god knows when.
I would never let an animal suffer!
But we are left to dealing with morones.

Sorry but when i get going theirs no stopping me.
