my dad had gout is there a connection

hi just wondering if there is any connection with gout and arthritis as my dad suffered quite badly with gout when he was older, or is it just one of those things, and does it run in families

Gout is counted as a form of arthritis as it affects the joints. It does run in families but it mostly affects men. It is much less common in women and then only after the menopause.
