Hello All
New to site, have posted on "Say Hello Site" I have OA of neck and back, which is now affecting my arm and hand. I am waiting for another MRI scan. I would like to know from anyone who does have OA in neck, if youare having trouble with your ears, i have pain behind my left ear, at times it feels as though the side of my glasses are digging in, but i know they are not. Also i have trouble lying one either side of my head, i know i have had numerous pillows, which i now feel i have the right one, but it can sometimes feel as if my muscles go hard in my head, does that sound daft, i feel daft writing this, but i cannot explain it any other way. When i have asked the doctors, different ones, they all say the same, its your neck, but no other explanantion. I have the side of my face going numish at times, all sorts of different head pains, and nerves pains, tender to touch somtimes also. It seems at times as if you are on your own with all types of symptoms, but i know i am not, but the doctors do what they can, but i feel you never get a proper answer from them.
Thanks for reading

HI Monica
Have they checked out your jaw too? I have OA in hands and right shoulder plus knees. You sound in an awful lot of pain. Have you contacted your Occupational Therapist (you can do this yourself) they may be able to suggest aids to help out around the home and with your comfort in bed.
I am sure someone will come along soon who has similar problems.
I assume you're on medication? Sometimes it takes the GPs time to work out the best medication to suit your needs. If you haven't been to the GP in a few weeks make an appointment and explain how you've been feeling. What meds are you on? Currently I take 3 x diclofenac; I'm currently on Tramadol 5 a day since my total knee replacement operation; but will return to 8 x co-dydramol a day; I also take amytriptline at night up to 3. Amytriptline helps to relax you which then helps you to sleep better at night.
Welcome to the forum.
With regards

Hi Monica,
Welcome to the site, I am glad you found it but sad that you had to. This lot are very nice and good and I hope you will get some answers as well.
I am glad you to have a MRI and necks, oh the are horrible things! Its one of the hardest pains to ignore I get. I got oa and pa and both are playing with my neck, I don't know which is doing what but it does have so many other things conected to it. I have disc bulging an dehydrating in it, the bones are all not so good and I find the pain clinic very good at helping to knock out some of the pain, but obviously they wouldn't send me till he MRI.
Its all to do with what nerves are being affected, which bits are affected and thats probably what they mean. I find I an only really sleep on the left side cus the oa in my lumber doesn't yell at me so much then, I can't always gt comfy and its all trial and error but hopefully once they know what's going on in there they will help to keep it quiet for you.
I hope you wont have to wait long and have you got some decent pain relief there? Take care Cris0 -

Well i'm sure than was no help at all, but you do have my sympathy Monica

Hello and thankyou for your points of view. I am taking meds but unfortunately i have to stick to the same tablets as i am not good with taking them, i have terrible stomach probs if i am not carefull. I take co-proxomol, nortriptyline of a night 30mgs, also diazepam about 5X5mgs or more if needed, also zantac. I have had the spinal injections about 8 now over the years, but now they do nothing at all, i have had facet joint injections in the back, but again did no good. They say it is not worth operating on as i could end up worse, even in a wheel chair, but how tru that is, i do not know. I can just about cope with the back, although i never have a good nights sleep even with all the tabs, i have sleeping pills, but i try not to take them. Like i say its the neck, it drives me mad, i have thrown th cushions slept in the living room, so as not to wake hubby, but he is very good. I did have a bad spell of virtigo, i have never found out whether thats from the neck or not. Some docs say it is others say something else, you just cannot get a straight answer. I hope they sort my arm and hand out, it feels as if it is in the shoulder but they say its coming from the neck, hence the MRI. I did ask how long it will .take and they said 3/4 weeks, so fingers crossed
Thanks for all your replies

Hi Monica,
I am sorry your struggling, I remember that so well...... My Rumo gave me Pregablin and its really does help. Its the next generation of gabapeptin and its really worth a try.
I also have tempary nerve blocks done on mine..... well I have had one and tis a chemical knock out of the nerves and lasts well for 3 months and then its back and in my case with vengeance! I don't give mine many concessions and we fight all the time but I promise you this bits of mine are now burning out and that hurts much less.
Mine is from L1 down and all the C's to varying degrees and has both spellings of spondy and its really a constant pain. The pregabalin is the only thing that really helps out side of the nerve block, which I may get done permanently just to get rid of it!
You take it easy and all I can do is hope you get some better pain relief and send you a ((( ))) Cris x0 -

Hi Skeizer
My arthritis is from C4-7 in neck T1 L4/5 and S! he did mention another disc but cannot remember which one. The blocks like i mentioned did last about 3month with me, but now they do not even work.I did try Gabapeptin but it made me feel really sick, so this is why i keep to the same medicines, although i could do with a stronger pain killer at times. Also i have been told i have fibromyalgia, i get terrible loss of memory as of late, they tell me it is called fibro fog, have you ever heard of this, or has anyone else on the forum got this problem, would be grateful to hear from anyone who has. I am just waiting now to see if it is a nerve affecting my arm and which one, it always seems to be hospitals and waiting, Take care
