Hi all
Just bit stressed out as developed sore throat over weekend, had metho injection monday even thou told nurse about sore throat she just said see how it goes in few days and speak to dr if not clearing up. Anyway saw dr yesterday did bloods and after consulting with oncall rheumatology registra have been told not to have injection mon, more bloods next wed/thurs then will review. I'm also on plaquenil daily and they want me to continue with this but I can't understand how I'm gonna fight off this throat virus??? Just all very worrying. Been on metho for nearly five years and plaquenil only introduced earlier this year, from then had dry lips, got thrush in corners of my mouth and now this!!! Not a good start to 2010. Ironically the arthur is the best its ever been! I would appreciate any peoples views/experiences etc.
Take Care

Hi Kelly,
Sorry to hear about the problems you have been having with your medication. Im suppose to be starting methotrexate so unfortunately I can't exchange experience about side affects.
All the same, I wanted to say that I hope you are feeling better soon and that they will sort out the medication for you.
All the best.
Luv

Hi Kelly I have r/a and i've been on mtx for 5 years, i have a sore throat and like you they told me to carry on mine did go away. I do get dry lips and a sore mouth, i go and see my dentist soon and i am going to ask her what i can use for it. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Do you get very tired and feel sick when you have had your mtx :?:

Hi Kelly,
I'm on Mtx in combination with Anti TNF...
I've had to stop Mtx a couple of times when I've had low WBC and also bad nausea and my hair falling out!
I now have Mtx by injection and they increased the Folic Acid to help with the nausea and hair problem...seems to have worked.
So even if they do stop the Mtx they might put you back on it again once things settle down, especially if it's been keeping arther at bay. WBC tends to bounce back quite quickly, so fingers crossed.

Hello,
Nothing useful to say, except I hope you feel better soon and can get back on track. It must be worrying for you, but try and rest and relax as much as possible.
Lots of love Sue xxx0 -
HI Kelly,
like you I have been taking MTX for a while with some success until recently when I had leflunomide added in. SInce then I had a range of problems including a run of nasty infections.
I did wonder if they would stop the Leflunomide, and leave me just with the MTX which was not really enough on its own. However, what they did for me was to keep me on a low dose of the LEflunomide and to reduce my MTX dose slightly to settle me down and to give my body time to get used to the combination.
I guess they may do that for you .... but i did find that a week or so off the MTX did give me the best chance to fight the infections.
good luck

Hi Julie
Thanks for your kind words, I'm so glad its the weekend so I can try to recuperate. I was getting really bad nausea and about a month ago went onto the methotrexate injection and two months ago started on plaquenil ontop of this. I've been really good with the nausea as the injection seems to have solved that problem its just the infections and my wbc count thats causing probs at the mo. Might be worth mentioning your dry lips/sore mouth to gp.
Take care

Hi
Thanks for your kind words and reassurances. Just unsettled me as I've been on metho for five years and always had low wbc count but usually when I get an infection it tended to kick into action but now with this plaquenil ontop its continuing to go down. I'm so glad its the weekend and will rest up and try not to stress about it!
Take care
