DLA / Blue Badge Question

Hi
I've just been looking through other threads and have come across one that's made me think (I do that sometimes!).

I hope you don't mind delboy, but your sentence below has made me ask a question.

Once you get DLA it opens other doors, including a Blue Badge if full mobility is awarded

Does this mean that if you already have a blue badge you should automatically qualify for DLA? I got my blue badge 2 yrs ago, then got the DLA forms, but half way through filling them in, gave in :?
I threw it away in the end because I thought I didnt have a chance of receiving anything.
I've since (January) completed it again online this time, and am still waiting for their decision.

I'm now thinking, if you have a blue badge, you're classed as disabled, so does it follow that if you ARE classed as disabled, then you should also get DLA, or have I lost the plot here?????? :?

Can anyone help me on this please? (having a thick day)

    Hi Delboy, and thanks.

I have filled the forms in online and sent them off in Jan., had a letter from them saying it may take up to 8 weeks to decide.
But I came to the conclusion, and as you rightly say, I dont have anything to lose because I'm not getting anything!!! Only trouble now is, I feel like I'm being watched, sort of being checked up on, every suspicious car I see parked a few yards up the road, I'm thinking 'is that them'??? It'll be just my luck to get seen on a good day when I'm not hobbling as much as usual. Hey ho.

I might invite them to come and watch the hip op so they can see that I really do have problems.

It annoys me because most peeps at work dont even know I have a problem, I dont say a lot about ailments to them, they dont know half. All the young fit people park in the disabled bays and I have to walk right across from the other side of the site to get to the front door, I sometimes feel like parking behind them and blocking them in.

Anyway, thanks for your reply, and sorry for ranting on.
    Have a good day. :)

    Hi Quietwaters.

The dla mobilty componet at the higher rate is a passport benefit to getting a blue badge.

This means you only need to provide tghe award letter to social services to get one rather than eget a GPs letter to back you.

If you struggle with the DLA forms I really would try to get some help with them - CAB maybe? They do have quite a waiting list, but it can be worth it.

    Good luck

    Love

    Hi Toni

Thanks for reply. I don't think I really explained myself properly in the first post, sorry.

I already have a BB for 2 yrs now. What I meant to ask is, because I have a BB, does this mean being registered as disabled, would I have automatically qualified for DLA 2yrs ago? I didnt mention on the recent forms sent that I was registered as disabled already (at least I dont think I did, will have to look at the copy).

    I'm just a little bit confused :?

Whatever happens, I suppose they'll say once I've a new hip I wont qualify, even though the surgeon told me that the left hip is only good for another 2 - 4 yrs and also have arthur in both knees since young.

Hi You can fill in the DLA form on line if you want to and feel confident enough. Type DLAdirectline Gov and it should come up on a list from your search engine, just like looking for anything else. I hate the forms too, sometimes the questions are so silly and don't seem to apply to much thats usful - my experience, so far, is with the ESA forms YUK. I'm appealing now but not holding my breath!!!

Do have a go, they can only say no but, if you've got a blue badge, I should think that will tell them something!

    Good Luck, Sue

    Hi QW

    I would say that
no, you dont qualify for DLA if you have a Blue Badge
    its the other way around.

If someone gets DLA for mobility purposes then its
easier to apply for a Blue badge as the letter confirming
the DLA period is proof enough that you need a BB.

    Hi

    Fed up from Northampton

Give it a go girl - you loose nothing by trying. It can be reveiwed once you have had your op and recovered. If you have had the problem for 6 months or more you are entitled to apply.

    Hi Chirpy!
thanks, I'll just wait and see what happens. At the end of the day, as Delboy said, and also what I've thought for weeks, it doesnt really matter, I'm not getting anything so nothing from nothing is............ errrrrrm, nothing!!! :(

Never mind, I still count myself lucky.

    Hi Quiet,

Don't think we have met but hi neways :)

I have a BB for 2 years too and so pleased with it. I really hope you get DLA and hope the awarded straight away rather than make you appeal it cos I find it's their favourite pass time lol. I got turned down, appealed and again and went to Tribunal and won  Im the typical woman who don't give up an argument.

I know what you mean and if you don't have something you don't miss it but hey it would be lovely to get it so...............

    Good LUCK x
