my daughter is 23 and has been suffering with severe joint pain, we have been to the doctors numerous times and now seem to be eventually getting somewere, the pain is in her shoulders, knees which are swollen and her fingers which are swollen and starting to bend slightly, she is at the hospital on the 15th and just wondered if we should be asking anything in particular, blood tests came back showing inflamation, my daughter is not overweight she is about a size 10 she is a keen horsewoman, but is not at the moment because of the pain .

The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

Hi, I expect your GP will be sending your daughter to see a rheumatologis. I'm sorry she is not feeling well, but as you say she's on the right track now. It sometimes takes a while to get their.

When she gets the correct medications, she may soon notice a big difference in how she feels and have more energy.

Its nice to hear from you and maybe your daughter would like to write in too or talk to the helpline team, they are very good. Number on the top left side of the page, and its free! :)

Try not to worry, which I know is not easy, but just think, she could be at the beginning of feeling a lot better soon.

    Best wishes, Sue

    Hi Marooned

She is lucky to have such a caring Mum :)

I agree with Sue she likley will be referred to a rhumatologist and they know what they are doing.

What is usefull for them is if you have time to write down the history of the illness , duration and how it affects her day to day. Any stiffness and for how long each morning. That sort of thing.

Oh yes and dont let her go alone - she might foget to say something or even what he/she has said to her

As Sue said once she gets the right meds her life should get back on track a bit.

You both have all my sympathy

    Love

Hi marooned, please try not to worry too much. I am in my thirties and have been diagnosed with RA for about 5 years but with symptoms for about 8 years. Even if the diagnosis for your daughter is some form of arthritis, there is lots of medical help, I have always had horses and ridden and still ride, muck out and do everything I used to as much as possible but with the help of a combination of medication and especially anti-inflammatories! I get very tired much more easily but in general I still try to do as much as I can! You sound like a great Mum and there is loads of help on this site and also the young people's forum.

I was really careful when I was first properly diagnosed, I still did all the same jobs at the stables but took it a bit steadier and paced myself but now I just get on with it as long as I am not in too much pain, take extra anti-inflammatories if I need to and enjoy the fresh air! I do suffer a bit on an evening but a warm bath usually helps and your daughter is only young so I'm sure she'll get good treatment. The only extra thing I have done is buy some more expensive boots for riding in that are more supportive and have steel toe-caps, my RA is quite bad in my feet and ankles and also the last thing I need is getting my feet trodden on!!! Good luck with your daughter and I'm sure she'll still find she can keep up the riding and horses etc.

    Hi Marooned

    Get reday for the apt

Make notes together of all symptoms when they come on (and go if they do) stiffness and pain. How she sleeps etc

(see if she has a raised temp?) Might make her feel sick.

They should do xrays and an examination take history etc

You are going with her? Take a notepad to TAKE notes of what is said.

All being well they should prescribe something to help her too.

    God luck

    Love

    It is a worry

you bank all your hopes on it dont you?

then you worry they'll say there's nothing wroing and not help you when you KNOW there is something very badly wrong.

I was convinced i would be sent off back home as by the time the apt came round I was fine!!! They should go on all sorts of evidence not just blood results. If you are there with her - she will be fine :)

    Love
