Hi,Since being on medication I've stopped drinking my favourite tipple,a glass of wine at the weekend, and was wondering if any of you still drink alcohol and if so,has it caused any problems with the meds you are on?I take Hydroxy,Omeprazole and Naproxen and I read that you should avoid alcohol while on Naproxen.(Apparently Hydroxy isn't affected by alcohol.)I do miss a glass of wine on a Sat and Sun so I bought a bottle of alcohol free wine,Eisberg, and it was awful, tasted like stale water!!Be interested to know if any of you still have the occasional drink. :?: Cheers! Breane.

    Hi Breane

I most certainly do. I am anti inflams and cocodamols. I find having a drink can make me more tired, that is all but I don't think that is particularly unusual, not at my age  :lol: I usually only have a drink(s) at night, so making me feel tired is ok by me! :)

    I rarely drink alcohol

I am afraid I do know peopel with our sorts of probelms who do and its a bad road

one fella drinks two or three cans of beer every night ..says it " relaxes " him

but 14 pints of beer a week is not good for ones weight or general health

he nees to take up yoga , swimming , gentle walking if possible really

    Hi Breane,

My medications are Mtx and Etodolac and Paracetamol for an occasional treat  I take my Mtx on a Tuesday so that I can still have a drink at the weekend ...being Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

I checked with my Rhumy first and he said to carry on as I have been with alcohol and if my bloods showed up anything we would talk again ....that was nearly 2 years ago and everything is fine.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Breane
My gp actually told me to have a glass of wine of a night with my medication, told me it would make me sleep better, but all i got was a headache. But i do have a glass or two of VAT of a weekend and just take my tabs a bit later. You have to have some perks to go with the arthritis, just drink wisely.

    Bottoms up

    Hi Breane!

I'm sorry to say I don't drink any alcohol now. :(:(

I'm on Humira and Mtx, Tramadol , co-dydramol and Amitriptyline. and was advised not to drink any alcohol.

I did try once and had terrible hallucinations! saw green goblins at the end of my bed and ghosts, in cartoon form, floating through the window   it was a nasty experience I can tell you...and I will not be repeating it.!

sooooo....I've not had any alcohol since. :!:

Though reading everyone's replies has made me want a wee glass of wine!!!

    HI Breane,

I decided that when I began putting several drugs into my system that said best to avoid alcohol then I would do that, but I do have to add that I only ever had an occasional glass of wine, never drank much really.

I did really miss the occasional chilled glass of wine on a hot summer evening, and like you tried several of the alcohol free ones. They are not all as appetizing as they appear, but I did find that Sainsbury do an own label Alcohol free wine which I have served to alcohol drinkers and actually received compliments for the wine!! They do a white and a rose, and we now enjoy being 'normal' with the odd glass of wine we can enjoy.

    HI
Im on MTX and biologics and was told you can still drink on them just in moderation as long as your bloods are ok. I think its like anything in life in moderation its ok. I dont drink loads never really did but have had a celebration recently   but my blood results were fine following it. Its just to consider protection of your liver as the drugs can effect the liver function. As long as you are not drinking loads day in day out week in week out Im sure you will be fine to have a drink once in a while. I do on a Friday night when me and OH go out for a meal with our friends. Its our 3 hrs of relaxation and I probably have 2 glasses red wine or a couple of vodkas with my friend. :D
Its not for everyone and it depends how the drugs are affecting your liver etc..

    Hi
I am on sulphasalazine, celebrex, omeprazole, iron tabs and tramadol
I enjoy a bottle of wine / few beers on the weekend and just find that i get much more tired. I avoid tramadol the afternoon of my evening drink to be safe and have never had any problems. More recently I have found that I can only manage about 3 glasses of wine and often need to mix with lemonade as it tends to go straight to my head.
I bleieve so long as you're careful anything in moderation is fine especially if you are having regular bloods done as any probs will show up.

    Hi Breane
I have never been much of a drinker basically because I live in a rural setting and going out usually means driving. My dearly beloved thinks we should share the driving so he drives to the pub and I drive back! All that orange juice I must be full of vitamin c. Eisberg is very sickly and I have found an alcohol free white wine called "Fre" it is a chardonnay. Its great when friends come over they dont feel uncomfortable having a drink when Im sitting with a glass of wine in my hand. I have never seen Fre in pubs, I buy it in ASDA its actually cheaper than Eisberg and tastes soooooo much better, but you have to make sure its really chilled. Hope you live near an ASDA and can get some so you can get back to those relaxing evenings having a glass of wine.
    Regards

    Hi

This is me too. I do my MTX on Tues. I've had the occasional drink at weekends and my blood tests have been fine.

Hi Trisha, there is an Asda about 17 miles from where I live and I may be in that area this weekend so will call in and see if they stock the wine you mentioned.I don't drink much but I do like a glass of wine on a Sat and Sun. Apparently Sainsbury do a 'free from' wine but my local branch didn't have any.Tried Waitrose and the Co op but no luck there either. Breane.x

I haven't had a drink for 14 months, not that i'm counting. I am on oxi norm, oxi contyn, paracetomal & Trazadone plus Folic, b12 injections. My GP said I could have a glass of wine but I am a beer drinker and although I would like a drink, not sure that it would be worth it for one.

I do miss having the occaional drink.
