:x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x hi all,

boy is it cold in the house today as the boiler only comes on for 10 seconds , it starts with a bang and big flame then blows itself out only to bang again on for another 10 seconds then bang out and pump stops .

the bangs are very scary , they said the last time they came out that they are going to have a meeting on wheater to fit a new boiler but told us not to count on it ( are they waiting for it to blow , and then they will have no option to fit it) its hard to type when its soooo cold.

I am scared each time I go out and leave hazel and my son in the house,.

Hi Mike flippin heck great timing or what, do you have an electric fan heater do you know anyone who has one you can borrow??.
As for the old boiler going boom sounds like it's not igniting the fuel fast enough and then goes woof and blows it itself out with a bang, still not nice, if it's not working right can you turn it off so it at the mains?.
what type of boilers is it and how old??, ours has cycled like that before but I know what causes it to do it it's the flippin Honeywell valve always going Pete Tong piece of junk.
Let us know how you get on, if you rent then your land lord has to replace it ASAP.

this has been going on since January it was a loud noise no bang , got the lanlord to call out which they did could not find any noise so left , over the next week the noise was getting stronger so called them out , this time fellow heared the noise , he checked the boiler found that the seals were leaking fumes out so he replaced it and new burner, again next day noise now it starts with a bang called out again , he got some else to look at it their boss he said something wrong needs new pipe , he never called out but sent another workman out, he heared bang I told him the boss said its should not bang ( he said the banging is normal and not to worry) so this workman said we are going to have a meeting , as they should have fitted a new boiler as its costing them money to call out and a new boiler is £1,500.00 but dont count on them going to replace new boiler,
We are fed up the next door neibour offered to lent us a convetor heator, but are the landlord going to pay the electtic bill for us ( I dont think so )

    Hi Mike

I'm so sorry that you are all cold because of this problem with your boiler.

I think you will have to keep pestering and make a nuisance of yourself until you get something done about it. It could be dangerous, and the landlord has a responsibility to make sure you are safe and warm.

Has the landlord got an office?

Perhaps you could all go and sit in his office where it will be warm

He would get the message then.

Sorry you are suffering so. This March seems so cold, worst than the whole of the winter put together. It is minus 6 this morning and I am really sorry you are in this predicament.

hi , We rang the office to see how the meeting went about our bolier, as the workman told us that they were going to have a meeting to see if a new bolier is called for . It only turns out that there was never any meeting at all , the girl in the office said maybe the workman was spining us a line. So we told her that we had no heat over the weekend . That the bolier came on this morning , I had to reset the switch for it to work. she said she will try and send someone out today . lets hope they do call out and the issuse is resolved for good.

    cold cold fed up :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

lets hope it working for tonight it said on the weather forecast it is going to be mius 3 in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

hello must be one of those bad days when everything goes wrong our toilet wont flush and we reported it, as its a council house we live in, i was told that as its the only toilet in the house it a qualifying repair which means they got to fix by midnight tonight if not we can claim compo from them, so we got to stay in just in case someone comes :(:( and its a nice sunny dry day here and we was going to go out so that put a stop to that, so it means not too many cups of teas otherwise its going to be one smelley loo for them

i hope he gets it sorted before 6pm tonight otherwise my son going to be in the bath and being autistic he wont be happy he dont like any invading his space.

i will be thinking of you i hope you get it sorted as soon as possible if needed keep phoning your landlord or who ever is doing the repair, and keep anoying them they soon get fed up and come and do it as they be sick of you :lol:

hi mike sounds like its finally died " given up the ghost " not very funny his time of the year when you cant use your heating not fun at all, anyway got toilet fixed joys of having a council house told them its the only toilet and when were they going to do it, plumber came out at 3 and was done by time my son came home from school, so sometimes it pays to annoy people as i done last week as i was fed up with the lack of someone clearing the snow off the footpaths so i emailed the council and the local paper as well and it was under the postbag page, that day i just had enough so fingers crossed next time we get bad weather they will do the footpaths where we live :)

    OMG MIke

    that is terrible
I thought people with a disability were priority and that heating is too

Get under your duvets - even in the lounge if you have to and wear a hat even if you look silly. Move about as much as you can. Getting too cold is really not at all good for you.

If you have hopt watyer bottles or wheaties use them too.

    Any news at all??

Iwish I had good news Toni, but I am afraid I have none , The workmen who call out to look at bolier say , they cant do any more , and could we just bear it until they try to push for a new boiler..

I told him its ok for him to say just bear it but we have to live through the cold until they decide if a new bolier is going to happen. How long will we have to wait ? I am going to read the manuel to see if it says anything about waiting while you have no heat

I just rang there head office ony to be put through to maintenance, the girl asked if the fellow left me heating last night , I told her he did but only for an hour as it would not come back on again for me or this morning . she said she will get someone out to me , I told her all the workmen say is just bear it and we are pushing for a new bolier.

She said before a new bolier is approved a report must be sent in , this has not been done .

just tryed it again (incase it comes on when workmen show , ) and it wont still come on yet when they call they take hood of and switch it on and it works but the miniute hoods back on it knocks of and wont come back on ( its crazy) all this worry is not good for me or hazel its not too much to ask for nice quiet heat no bolier banging when switched on .

you people are great for letting me let of steam on here

Couldnt find anyone who has had a similar experience on internet. But remember Suzster went through similar probs. Her heating went(housing Assoc) and was fixed, but broke again. She had to wait and finally got £20 compensation, which was no deal really.
Def agree you need to put pressure on them. If it needs replacing as workmen are suggesting then it needs to be arranged immediately. They have stated not repairable.

Okay just read your new message. Make sure that report for a new boiler goes in quick and ask how long it will take to sort. I hope if you keep ringing then they will want you sorted as quick as possible!

    Hi Mike

I have had a quick look on Which?site/ housing repairs/ Northern Ireland. Advice at this point (as dont have much information to go on) is to Look at your tenancy agreement to see if any information on repairs, and how to go about it and next step procedures.

Elizabeth, Thank you very much for looking for me on the internet .
The house assc, is Fold they put me through to repairs and they saidm someone will call out ,, but if all the workmen say needs replaced or is this just the thought of one workman, why have they not sent a report in ( something fishy here).

will let you all know how this workman got on and if I have heating on when I need it( not just for an hour.

    Mike,
Do look at your Housing Association tenency book. This should tell you who to complain to and who is responsible for repairs and how long they should take.
I have some other numbers if you have no joy. Co.Down CAB and housing executive but there should be no need for this at this point( unless you think otherwise).

It's the heat exchanger that's not working properly Mike. It needs to be changed and you wont have any more problems.
