Over the past 3 months I have become fatigued again. I used to suffer really bad but it did improve. I mentioned it to my nurse and she said talk to your GP.But I dont want to do that and accaept it as part of the R.A/OA,

Very interesting to read iron supplements are pretty useless to those with RA. I've been taking them for years, but recently the crashing fatigue has returned.
I saw an acupuncturist at the start of this latest RA/JIA episode who said that my body wasn't absorbing the iron tablets for some reason, and that I should get my iron from meat. However, my RA worsened and I think an intolerance to red meat was partly to blame for that.
So.....iron tablets are next to useless and foods rich in iron are possibly making the RA worse........what's a girl to do????
Had a lovely 2-mile dog walk yesterday and am delighted to say no aches and pains as a result.....but boy do I have that walking in thick mud feeling today!
Sally, hope you're feeling a bit better now,

Hi Sally,
how're you feeling now?
Fatigue I think runs a close second to pain and immobility when it comes to the worst that arther can do. :x
It's wicked to get up in the morning feeling just as tired as when you went to bed.....and there doesn't seem to be any magic dust to relieve it.
Val.
hope you have a better day today.
Lois,
you're right...there don't seem to be any foods that help either :!:

Hi all
Sally thank you for starting this thread, though I am sorry you felt the need too. I really hope you are having a goodish day today. I have only just seen these posts and though I have OA and not the RA or combination of both most of you seem to suffer the extreme tiredness with it has answered some of my questions too. Thank you.
I think Sue and Sharmaine and maybe others spoke of OA here. I am only just getting to grips with the what seems to be flares with OA. I naively assumed OA just got steadily worse and did not have these more active periods before returning to what I will call the normal dull roar. :? I wondered why my doc had me on anti inflams when I have never been tested for RA but this does explain why they might help me.
Mine are sometimes as short as a couple of hours and sometimes days. The hard part is never knowing when or if they will end? They really had me scared to death to begin with but threads like these have helped me understand what I am dealing with so thank you all.
As too the tiredness, yes me too. Am sure my permanent limp takes its toll and though I do struggle to still work part time because I feel I have too, my days off I can sleep for England and frequently do.
Thanks again for the replies here, I'm still learning even after 7 years of this.

hi everyone, Liz, Val etc. thanks for your replies and concern, it is very touching that everyone is so supportive on here. Seems that fatigue is a very common problem.
Lois, still feel tired today though cheered by everyone's posts. It helps to know it isn't just me and I'm not making excuses! Don't think the weather helps much either. Hate this low grey sky we have in London today. Feels very oppressive. I was interested to read you post about iron supplements. I am a vegetarian, though eat quite a lot of fish, and my haemaglobin is always high (14 +). So you don't need to eat red meat - though I take your point that you may not be absorbing it. That is a whole different thing of course.
Hi Chris, as I said, my mother had severe OA and she often had good and bad days. Pain also makes you feel very tired don't forget. Mum never knew what caused a bad day apart from some acidic foods. Just happened that way. Maybe there is more in common with the two kinds than is recognised by the professionals?
Iris, you are right of course. I tend to be a bit hard on myself and have high expectations. Very hard to sit back and rest (don't really know the meaning of the word ) Will have to get better at it though otherwise I am going to find life very hard! Just waiting for the mtx to kick in, maybe things will improve then.
How are you all?

For the past week I've had absolute bone crushing fatigue. It doesn't lift with resting so I'm trying to do a couple of household jobs in the morning so at least when I collapse on the sofa at lunchtime I feel like I've achieved something.
I'm hoping its just reaction to last weekend (was whisked away for a romantic weekend for our first wedding anniversary, big surprise and totally lovely) but it could be pregnancy related. I'm now 33weeks and bending over to pick things off the floor has become impossible. I even used the hoover tube to pick up some papers I couldn't reach off the floor.
I'm hoping it will go soon, if not I'll have to get my iron levels checked but its an tiring to even breathe at the mo. Have cancelled all my social activities for this week and for next which is a pain (its hardly like I've got a hugely active social life but cancelling the two things I enjoy sucks a bit!).0 -
Hi - hope people have got answers from this link?? I have found the last couple of days I have suffered from fatigue again but not sure why??? I only work pt, and today my manager said I could leave at 11am (love her ) so went for lunch with friend but come 1pm, I felt really tired and wanted to go home!! Came home and slept, not althrough, but was in bed till 3.30ish, then just said down and watched tv till 5ish. even now dont feel completly rested. Am fed up with it but not really much can do but agree with other comments that have to listen to the body!! Think pain is hard on the body - I have tried cutting painkillers down so maybe this is what's going on, as feel am becoming addicted to them??
Hoping that weekend will bring better things!! Take care everyone!! xx
