Carpal tunnel and Baker's cyst

Hi
Not been around for a couple of years or so, but have decided to come back now and chat to 'the experts'.
I have OA, Sjogren's syndrome and various other conditions - each trying to outdo each other - but my main two problems at the moment are the carpal tunnel syndrome and my poor old knee.
I'm trying to manage the carpal tunnel with adjustments at work, not doing any unecessary repetitive movements, and extra painkillers. However, the knee is a different thing. The GP last week diagnosed it as a Baker's cyst and suggested a sports support and the usual RICE. We did discuss takking a third Celebrex each day, but that's not an option, as it really upsets my tum. So, any suggestions?
Also, although the BC has reduced with the support, outside of my knee, down to my ankle is really sore. My kneecap is sore too, particularly when sitting for any length of time. Driving really causes pain.
So, over to you :?

Hi Kathy,
Has your cyst actually burst? This has happened to me twice - first time they had me admitted into hospital as they thought I had DVT(!) and the second time, they just kept telling me to rest the leg and take painkillers. This did nothing and the swelling eventually reached as far as my ankle and was agony - my rheumy then syringed as much fluid out of the leg as possible and injected some cortisone, which helped greatly.
May be worth a return visit to your GP or Rheumy - if you're in a lot of pain, you need something done sooner rather than later.

Hi Kathy
I remember you!I am sorry to hear about your BC.
I have heard they are so painful. You can get it aspirated and there is surgery as a last resort.Apparently they can disappear on their own accord but I don't know how common this is.
With all the pain you are suffering plus it making driving difficult, I would return to your gp and have another chat.
Look after yourself,
Luv

Hi Kathy,
nice to meet you!
I recently had a baker's cyst....really, really painful eh?
I had the knee aspirated and the docs did an ultrasound and arthrogram to see what was going on.
They then left it couple of days (weekend) and aspirated it again, injected it with steroid and applied a cold pressure splint to it. brrrrrrrr makes me shiver just thinking about it.
Spent total of three days in hospital but part of that was due to another arther / bloods issue.
It's been ok since then. worth getting checked out as other peeps have said they can rupture and 'leak' into the calf muscle which I'm told is even more painful! bet you're glad you asked.
hope you get on ok! Irisx0 -

Hi Folks
Thanks for your replies. I will see how it goes on over the weekend, and then maybe have a chat with the GP next week. The problem is, I'm having bowel surgery on 22, and I don't want to do anything between now and then that delays the surgery.
Elna - lovely to see you are still posting. I've not had a good look around yet, so I don't know how many of my other old buddies are still active.
