Hi
I got a phone call from the Hospital today I am going in for my THR on 15th April, The wierd thing is that I am not at all feeling scared this time, but thats probably because I went through all the feelings last time then never had the op in the end so now I will believe it when it happens and probably get nervous on the operating table.
It will be so good to not be in as much pain and not to have to rely on painkillers.

I am waiting for mine, I see the surgeon in may, and then it is up to them when they send for me, I have left it so long, like you said it will be great to be without the pain.
You let us all know how you get on, and good luck, hope it all goes well.
You take care

And about time too, Denise! Keep hold of that laid back feeling, if you can, it really will help.
April 15th is the third anniversary of my TKR, and it was one of the best things I ever did. I`m wishing for the same for you. Hope they have sorted out your other health problems.........Ange.0 -
Hi,
Good luck! Not too long to wait and I'm glad you are not scared. It's understandable the last time, if that was your first op. Hope all goes well for you. Lots of love Sue xxx0 -

Hi Denise
Just to wish you all the best on the 15th April. I would be like you are feeling about it at the moment, too, if I had had my op cancelled previously. That is the best way to be this time, keep cool and believe it, when it happens. I hope they will not dare to cancel again!

Thanks Guys
Some of you may remember they cancelled my op last time a couple of days before because my blood tests came back showing that my liver enzymes were far too high, after going through a series of blood tests and a liver scan the consultant came to the conculsion that it was the "statins" that I had been taking for a few months that had raised the levels very high in my liver, it has taken a while for the levels to come back down, so when I went this time for my pre op they were aware of the problem that I had had and the nurse said that they would contact me as soon as they got the results back if there was any problem with them. (which is more than the last hospital did)
I have changed hospitals and consultants this time because I had so many problems with both so much so that I put in a official complaint and it was investigated, so I really didnt want to go there again and I certainly didnt want that consultant again.
Thanks again for your good wishes.

Hi Denise
No!! You would not want that consultant to operate on you, would you? I remembered that the op had been cancelled but did not realise that you had changed your consultant. Good for you for putting in a complaint about the other one.
I am sure things will go to smoothly and to plan this time.
I wish you well,
Luv

Good luck Denise. Only a month to wait! I'm on the waiting list for a hip op too (resurface/THR.)
SpeedalongI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi just wanted to say good luck for your op. I had mine a year ago on the 3rd march and although I found the recovery tough it does make a big change. For me not the change I wanted as I have dysplasia of the back but I am defenitely a lot better than I was prior to the op so good luck0

Hi Denise,
Just to wish you good luck on 15th. Hope it all goes the way it should.
I've just had visions of you leaping off the table and scarpering off down the corridor - hospital gown flapping! You won't .... will you!
Best of luck

Hi Elna
I changed my consultant because he had a really bad attitude towards me, one of the things that he said to me was "I am really good at doing these operations but it might not be me doing it, it may be a registrar and I cant speak for how good they are, do you still want it doing?" as you can imagine I was terrififed of having a operation as its my first and I really didnt want him to do it after saying a thing like that. Of course when asked about it he doesnt remember saying that to me, but I did have my husband with me in the room and he heard him say it.
I am so glad now that I did complain about the treatment that I received, you see all the signs up in the hospitals saying that if you abuse the staff you will not be treated, BUT what about us, they seem to think that they can abuse us and get away with it. Sorry I am ranting again.

Hi Denise
You most certainly did the right thing by complaining and changing consultants. Good on you. Thank goodness you had a witness, your husband, who heard it too.You definitely would remember something like that said to you anyway, wouldn't you? I bet that consultant was squirming
Wishing you all the very best,
Luv

Hi Denise,
Just to say I'm glad you got your date and to wish you all the best with the op. Know it's a while yet, but I'm sure I'll get tied up with something and not post a note for you.
Let's know how you get on.

Hi Denise
Good luck on 15 April when you go in for your THR. They do thousands of these operations each year - very successfully so you should be fine! My MIL has had both her hips done and it has changed her life - she is always out and about: bowling; art classes; swimming; dancing etc!!!
I was very emotional prior to my TKR (4 weeks ago) but once I was there I was fine! You are bound to feel nervous - I think we all do!!
Just think how much better you'll be afterwards.
Regards
