Gammy knee

Hi - need some advice
I'm having lots of pain in my knee - Bakers cyst, as well as the usual arthur stuff. As a tummy sleeper, I find that I'm putting a lot of pressure on the knee, and I wake up very sore. I've tried sleeping with a pillow underneath it, but that gives me problems with my hip. Any suggestions how I can protect it, without putting anything else out?

Hi Kathy,
Does any kind of support on it help at all? I mean either bandages, tubigrips or the knee supports them selves? I also wonder would a folded towel with a narrower bit for your knee help? Its would help take the pressure off but wouldn't be too high and might bot upset your hip. Sorry thats the best I can think of but hope someone else has some good ideas soon. Take care ad I really hope the cyst will calm own soon for you. Cris0 -
Hi Kathy,
I have a cushtie for supporting joints - it's not as bulky as a pillow and sort-of moulds around the joint. It's very squidy, soft and also lightweight for moving around under the covers if you need to.
Hope this helps.

Hi Noel
Yes, I am indeed that Kathy! Good to see you posting. HOw's that lovely grandson of yours?
Linda, what's a cushtie?
I have been using a knee support when up and about, but didn't think that would be useful when I'm in bed. However, I will try a towel, or something similar to pad my knee. In my mind's eye, I'm thinking I need something like a very soft doughnut to rest my kneecap on. Anyone tried anything like this?
Thanks for your suggestions.

HI Kathy,
sorry to hear that you are having a tough time with your knee.
A cushtie cushion is filled with tiny polystyrene beads and really molds itself to whatever shape it needs to be. I was introduced to them by the OT I am currently seeing.
Last week I found a cheaper version (just under a fiver) in the car supplies isle of Tesco - although i don't think it would be soft enough for your needs. However, they do also have a horseshoe-shaped travel cushion which maybe you could use ....... it's almost a squishy ring
good luck with whatever you do!

HI Kathy
I sympathise with you as I'm a knee sufferer myself. I used to prop my legs up with pillows but I can sleep on my back. Maybe you could try a mattress topper. I bought a memory foam one and it has been a godsend as it cushions your body/joints.
Take care.
