Can I pick your brains?

I had an op on my ring finger on my left hand last April. It was to pull the ligament back on to the joint as it had overstretched and fallen off.
Twice recently I have developed a large bruise on the top of the joint but I have not banged it or anything. It has been feeling quite painful - certain movements will cause a sharp stabbing pain in the joint.
Do you think I need to let anyone know or is it just something like a small blood vessel which has burst? And could it be pregnancy related? It doesn't happen to my other fingers.
Bit of an odd one! Any suggestions welcome!

Hi Sorry no-one has answered your question so ive pushed you back up the list to see if anyone can help you.
Sorry i havent got any answers for you.
I hope it feels better soon & perhaps a GP visit might put your mind at rest,no harm in asking them ah!

Hi jenzie
As it has been nearly a year since your op, then any related problems should have been over long ago. It may be something unrelated to the op and as such you need to let them know about it. If you don't, then it will worry you and no-one wants that.
So may I suggest that at least a phone call or visit to your GP could be the best thing to do.

Hi Jenzie
Related or unrelated to the op, as it is of concern to you, I would make an appt with your gp.

Thanks for the replies guys. Bit of a weird one, sorry. Its not bothering me too much but is just a bit odd and slightly painful. Have taken a photo of it so next time I see my hand surgeon I can wave it under his nose, see if he has any ideas.
Hope you are enjoying the spring sunshine.0 -
Hi Jen
I dont know if this helps but years ago I had a hUGE lump on the back of my hand which was blue/black. Hared off to the docs and it wsa a burst blood vessel - it settled back down soon enough.
But if yours is happening a lot...I would get it checked out.

Hi,
sorry I have no idea what it can be - but do know I often get bruises without recalling when/where or how I got them.
Arnica cream is good for bruises.
If it occurs again or gets sorer probably worth getting it checked out or mentioning it next time you visit GP.
SpeedalongI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Jay,
don't know what that could be but if in doubt get it checked out by the doc as others have already suggested.
how's it been since your last post?

I think it is just small blood vessels which cause the problem but as you are pregnant I think you should mention it to your GP/nurse

Hi everyone, thanks for bumping this up, much appreciated.
Hi Jenzie, how is your finger now? did you get it looked at? Hope you're a lot better. Jay x0 -
Hiya
Bruised finger still bruised now almost two weeks after it turning up. Still no idea what it is but it hasn't fallen off so I'm not too worried. Showed it to my GP while I was there and she didn't have a clue (never even mentioned burst blood vessel). She's wasn't that helpful on a lot of things (I've mentioned in another post) so I didn't push it. Just grateful it was only an hour of my life that I won't have back rather than longer!!
Hope everyone is ok today.

Hi Jen,
Thanks for your reply. Glad your fingers ok, and still there! Doctors, hmmmm. I used to have the best dr ever, he never rushed, always sat and listened, even visited my mum in hospital and the hospice in his own time, just used to turn up, he was what I call a 'real doctor'. Unfortunately he retired in July 2008 and I now have another, who is ok(ish), but not the same. Hope your finger soon sorts itself out and you get better very soon. I'm still swaying towards a circulation thing in my case. (could be wrong).
take care, love Jay x0 -
If you are on Humira (which I know Jenzie wont be) they tell you to report if you bruise a lot and often. I did find I came up in bruises and not near injection site and always just just after the humira injection. I did mention it to rheummy nurse and she checked my blood results for any blood anomalies. There wasnt anything thankfully so she wasnt worried.
The bruising was really dark purple and usually came up on my arms suddenly.
