Hi,The past few weeks I've been experiencing a really sharp pain in my wrist, the thumb side,in fact it's so painful first thing in the morning I can hardly move the hand without severe pain.Anti inflams and pain killers don't help and I wondered if anyone else has this sort of wrist pain.I guess it's probably just another pain that comes with OA and RA. :( Breane.

Have you any splints, Breane? I suffer from that sometimes and have found that using my night splints for a few days sometimes nips it in the bud if I catch it starting, but I also have some splints that hold the thumbs in the best position. They are a bit cumbersome but I do use them when it's bad. I believe arthritis at the base of the thumb gives pain at the wrist - I was told I get tendon inflammation there also, so I can sympathise  best wishes, Josie

Breane I have constant ache in my wrists but it's worse in the morning too. There's a couple of threads on here where folk are talking about different things that can help. Some of those things are splints, wax, heat, cold. Hope you find something that helps.

My wrists are the main thing that cause me problems. I have had an op to fuse the right one as my bone crumbled due to the RA, and the other seems to be taking the same route - I use splints, they do work wonders for the pain. The hospital give the out, although I bought my last one on line. Both my wrists are constantly swollen but some days are worse than others. I think you just kind of accept that this is what you got! :? xx

I suffer from OA and have constant wrist pain in my right wrist on the thumb side and on the other side. I can't bend my wrist back at all without pain or twist it and its worse first thing in the morning. It does ease slightly now and then but it also gets unbearable now and then too.

My OT gave me a wrist splint which works for me when its really bad, not the most easy thing to wear as it gets in the way at times but it does ease the throbbing sensation that I get with my wrist.

Sorry I cant be more help but I do sympathise.

    Hi Breane

I have ra in the wrists, and knuckles and oa in my fingers. I get a lot of pain and my fingers are like sausages also wrists swollen.

I was sent to see a hand therapist, she made me some night splints,( they mould them to fit ones) I also have day splints.

I find them alright to wear although when I have a flare it is uncomfortable.

Can you not ask to be referred to one?

It does seem wrist pain is a common problem with OA. :( I've no swelling on the wrists and no hand swelling so didn't know if the pain was coming from the bone.I'm waiting to hear from the rheumy nurse so when I get my next appointment I will ask about the splints.I have to phone today to get an assessment with the physio dept. so I could also ask them when I eventually see them although the assessment is for the arm/shoulder pain.I'm still waiting to see if the consultant is going to alter my meds and put me on MXT,was hoping to have a short course of steroids to dampen down the pain for a while but I guess that's not going to happen.I feel in limbo at the moment, meds not really helping with the pain and stiffness, perhaps the physio will help. The letter I recieved from them said there is a very long waiting list for treatment but I can have the assessment so that's better than nothing.
