TKR this week on Friday!

So nervous and it is only Monday, I had a Osteochondral Graft a few years ago and came out worse off, lost the use of my thigh muscles for 2 months and never recovered and am now a wheelchair user!

I am 42 and even though it should be easier when you are younger, I have been told recovery could take longer due to my moibility problems.
They hope to ease the pain but have said it wont help me to be up and walking!

    Hi Zec, :)

You beat me to it! I do keep my promises :wink: and was going to post a thread ESPECIALLY for you later today. :)

If you can get rid of the pain that will be something. You have mentioned to me earlier about the last op not being a success through no fault of your own and I am very sorry. Under normal circumstances everyone is nervous about operations because it is the unknown so we can well understand your reservations this time.

This time next week it will all be over, done and dusted. :)

    Love and best wishes

Hi zechariah, how dreadful you last op did not work out, don't know what else to say. Worst nightmare.

The posts on here for TKR look positive and is a very common op, to have less pain would definitely improve your quality of life.

Try and fill the next few days with activities and visits to keep your mind occupied.

I'm on the waiting list for a hip op and everytime the post comes I'm a combination of excitement and dread that it might be an invite for my pre-op check up etc ...

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Zechariah

Sorry to hear about your osteochondral graft made you worse off (not sure what it is!). Can they fix it? I had my TKR 5 weeks ago prior to that I was in a wheelchair (right leg also needs TKR). Now I'm on one crutch - amazing. I'm 54. My right leg is pretty bad and jolly weak- the left leg that has TKR gets stronger every day and I'm religiously doing physio exercises.

I'm sure they'll organise physio for you. I hope things go well for you.

    With regards
    Sharmaine

    Hi Zek
Just to send my support, it is such a shame that your last op didn't go well, but how nice it will be to get rid of the pain, the worrying is natural, before you know it the op will be over with, and your leg will start to get stronger.
We will all be there for you, if you see any nurses that look like this person-smiley-5388.gifit could be one of us, we could turn up anywhere
    you take care
    Barbara.

The hospital phoned and said the surgeon wants to see me tomorrow morning.
They said his name and it isnt my consultant that I agreed to have do the surgery!

I am so (mind the language) off and am now not happy going ahead with it!

    Hi Zec

That happened to my mum but she did not know until the actual op. She was already in the hospital bed. She had her op performed by this other person, not the surgeon she had been liaising with. I will not go into detail. :(

If you are not happy with the situation do not go ahead. Please do not have the op if you have any doubts.

    That is my humble advice.

    Love

    Hi Zec,

Its not easy when they change things with out asking you first but maybe if you go and see the surgeon tomorrow you will feel happier about it all? I really hope it gets sorted for you and fingers crossed it will all get smother and less scary. Cris

    Hi Zec,

I would go and see the surgeon first before you make up your mind.

If you are still not sure, I would ring/ask to see what your consultant's view is and if you are still not sure then wait until you can have your surgeon do the op ...

    Thinking of you ...

I totally agree there might be a reason its with another consultant maybe his waiting list is shorter or he is more specialised you need to make sure you have all the questions before hand even write them down so you dont forget anything & they will answer your questions truthfully Wishing you all the best Maria

    Hi

This happened to me, but in the end I had the best surgeon - he did a grand job! Try not to worry about it too much.
