I have PsA and have problems with both hands, elbows and other joints. Lifting, holding, gripping are all very difficult!

If this is a new or increasing problem for you it might be wise to see your doc or better still your rheummy so that you get pain relief and something to control the inflammation.

I agree splints don't always help when the pain is really bad but I'd rather have them than not!. If you don't have night splints (specially made by OT) then I would suggest asking for them as they will give your wrists and fingers support during the night and might help ease some of the pain.

Hope you can soon get some relief from this.......Iris x

I have had flares exactly how you describe.Couldn't hold a knife and fork, couldn't dress properly, couldn't raise my arm @ times.
This was before I was diagnosed with RA, I didn't have a clue what was going on then!

Luckily I haven't had such a severe attack for around 2 years (the time I've been taking methotrexate).

I do still get flares but they tend to be fairly mild these days in the shoulders but still severe in the wrists and hands.

Hmm maybe I don't get flares but have periods where it eases? as it seems to be more on than off!
