    Hi John,

Its horrible the hole the bone thing gets on us at times. A ((( ))) and well its best to get your eyes checked out thoroughly. RA can effect the eyes as can a few other things but they can help them along as well. Personally I would deffenetly ask to see the eye people and have then give your eyes the once over. I hope it soon settles. Cris x

Eye probs can come from hydroxychloroquinine(Plaquinil).Dry gritty eyes can be a symptom of Sjorgens syndrome which is due to inflammation involving the glands that produce tears and saliva(dry mouth). This info came from the NRAS booklet:managing well.

I do have eye probs such as focus and sore, gritty eyes but my recent eye test revealed nothing wrong.

Sorry to read about your other very bad symptoms that resulted in your hospital stay.R.A has certainly hit you badly!

My eyesight has become a lot worse in last couple of months but its pregnancy related rather than RA (I hope). I can no longer wear soft contact lenses as my prescription is too high and the shape of my eye has changed dramatically in last couple of weeks so hard contacts don't fit anymore. Have given up til a while after the baby is born! (Given up partly because the optician is miles from a car park and can't bear to trudge to it repeatedly).

Hi Handsy, please, please go to your GP and ask him for a referral to the eye clinic. I have an eye condition called 'Iritis' - caused by RA. If you do have this, it needs sorting sooner rather than later, it is treated with steroid eye drops - but if un-treated can cause blindness.
I went to my GP and he phoned the eye clinic there and then and they saw me that afternoon - its THAT important.

    Hi

Sorry to hear about your eyes. Book in for an eye test soon. Do you currently wear spectacles? I suffer with dry eyes which seems to come and go. I use hypermellulose drops to keep them moist and Simple Eye Ointment at night.

I hope you get an answer to your lack of focus soon.

    Regards

    Hi Handsy

I went to my opticians on tuesday to get my eyes tested, although i had one last year, and usually have them done every two years. But of late i have been getting ghosting on words on the television, i asked hubby if he could see it just in case it was not my eyes but he said no. I informed the optician of this, also he knows about my medication, which he says this will make your eyes dry as well as having Arthritis, i told him about the pains i have also been getting, he said it could all becoming from my neck where all the nerves are which can affect the optical nerve. Anyway he did all the tests, took an x-ray of the back of my eyes, stating that all the nerves were ok, but i have got a mole or freckle at the back of my right eye, which is my worst, he stated that when i had the x-ray last year the mole was the same as now, but will keep a check on this and see him next year, or if i feel the eye is getting worse see my gp or go back to him. :?: I knew nothing of this last year, the optician must of thought it was not important. Anyway he has now changed my prescription because the shape of my eye has changed, this could be causing the ghosting. Also they are very very dry even though i use viscotears, so if anyone know of something better please let me know. So i believe arthritis does play a big part in affecting other parts of our bodies which we least expect.

    Take care
