Hi everyone, hope everyones having a good day Well, as some of you know, I had a successful THR in August last year, been like a new woman, swimming 4 times a week, walking etc, best of all NO PAIN for the first time in 12 years, then BANG, pain back with a vengence last week; looking back, I think Ive been over doing it  well it was my birthday, so went on an all day shopping spree, then been to Stratford for a few days, walking alot, but I ignored the pain and dosed up on painkillers, ( old habits die hard).
Im not taking any chances, off to the Docs tomorrow, but Ive read about the condition Bursitis, and it sounds like the symptoms that Im suffering with; just wondered if anyones had or is suffering with this condition, any advice welcome. Thanks jk

Hip bursitis is one of the most painful experiences I've ever had. The pain was sharp and burning, throbbing constantly all around the outside of my thigh, round into my bottom. I was put on 60mg of codeine and 1000mg of parcetamol every 6 hours to try and alleviate the pain. That amount of codeine, which would usually make someone feel 'high' or very sleepy just made me lucid for the first time in days.
I found that heat and ice helped slightly, not moving helped and taking the pain meds at regular intervals. You have my sympathy: bursitis is one of the most painful things I've ever experienced. I hope it clears up quickly.0 -
I've got this nuisance of a thing in both hips. The steroid injections didn't help but that's not to say they wouldn't be useful in your case.
I do hope your doc can help, I know what a misery it is.

Hi Jk
I got it too in RT hip/bum
had steriod jab a while back, but didnt work - and i was Sooo good rested and everything.
Now my ex MIL had two jabs in each one a week or so backa dn I saw her this morning and she is GREAT!!!! so very happy!!! GP did hers so i might brave another go eh?
What I will say is if it has only just come on I would do the ice heat etc and use a stick on that side as it can heal itself.
Mine didnt as I (stupidly) thought it was referred back pain.
Search this forums and you will find some old threads about it.
Love

Hi, I've had left hip bursa for a while now and I put it down to back pain too, went to docs, went to hospital, had injection last September.
It worked for about two weeks and then back the pain came, it flares its ugly head every now and then, mostly when in bed I wake with pain on left side and feel quite miserable like this morning am waiting to see consultant at moment to see what next.0 -
Hi there.
I can really sympathise with you having bursitis of the hip. I have been suffering with it for what seems like ages. Have you had injections yet? They do help for awhile.
In despiration I asked my chiropractor if she could help me and she has after awhile. It was very very painful while she manipulated, but I am experiencing a bit of relief now. She told me to put cold packs on it and rub some arnica gel or balm into it. That has helped a lot.
At one point last month I begged my Rheumy nurse to inject it again, but she said that I had had too many and she couldn't do it again because it wasn't working for long enough each time.
I do hope you feel better soon. Just make sure you don't climb stairs with it or walk too far. and rest it if you can.
