Hi Julie
I hope you will be successful, and I will encourage you in any way I can. Are you trying to eat healthy food, as that is probably the best way to get your BP down. I have a sweet tooth, so I know it isn't easy to cut out all the things which are bad for us. I think the other thing is to try not to eat in between meals.0 -
I used to find that I would finish a meal but still not feel satisfied.
My answer was to have a plateful of non-fattening things handy to have as a 'dessert'.
I would put out anything I felt I would like and it often looked very odd indeed...........tomatoes, pickled beetroot, celery, a tinned pilchard, sliced apple, a banana, etc.etc.
I would also make up my own reduced fat cream cheese mix as I found the light ones tasteless.....onion, chives, ham, pineapple, whatever I could think of.
I found I never ate more than about a third of the plateful.......the rest was kept for 'grazing' on after the next meal.
It did work for me.........I lost two stone, so perhaps it's worth a try?

There we go Julie. There are a few tips you can try
Trish xx0 -
You can do it Julie, if I did, anyone can. There are lots of things that you can eat to make you feel full, don't starve yourself, or that has the opposite effect. Don't deny yourself a little treat every so often. Lots of veggies, slow release carbohydrates like pasta, rice, plenty of fish, even chip shop fish if you don't eat the batter is ok.
It isn't easy peasy, it takes time, 2-4 lb a week is average for steady weight loss.

Another idea is to eat a good breakfast. This stops you feeling so hungry mid-morning and at lunch time.0

HI Julie,
one of the best tips I was given (and I can honestly say I didn't think it would work and it certainly has ) is to start the day with a bowl of porridge.
The oats release energy slowly , and I never get that hungry feeling halfway through the morning like I used to.
Also I tried making snacks with oats in too, as I like sweet stuff but maybe you dont' have that problem.
Good Luck and don't keep weighing yourself ........ it makes the weight stay I am sure I ignore my scales and they always make me smile these days when I do get on them .....
good luck!!!!

Hi Julie,
If its tablet induced high bp then I guess it will come down with tablets as well. Porridge is meant to be good at lowering bp as well as filling you up I seem to remember?
I am lucky just now, losing weight cus of the crohn’s but its probably not a good way to do it
Can you do a chair workout thing? Sometimes that helps, but not if your arms and shoulders are hurting.
You will get there flower and sending you a another (((( )))) xx0 -
Hi Julie
Poor you
Can I say that cris' 'crohn's diet' is not the best Idea avoid that one
As Cris said though the water tabs will get rid of some wieght anyway and help the BP.
I have no tips, but would like to offer mysupport to you and encouragement.

Hi Julie
I am with you on this one. I know how you feel and I know you can do it.
Try starting with just cutting out bread. Makes an incredible difference.
Then try and cut down on potatoes. Not easy. I have just cut down my portions by half. That way you still eat everything you like.
When I get up in the morning, I would like to know why my legs look long and slim. By evening, they are fat and horrible. That has got to be fluid hasn't it. I go like that all over.
I've managed to lose 12 lbs so far but it has taken me awhile, but has already made a difference to my blood pressure.
Come on Julie, it is difficult too with it being Easter weekend.
Just try the bread think first.

Hi all I've had a boiled egg on toast and a banana a glass of water and a cup of tea with skimmed milk. So far so good.

I totally agree with this. I love porridge and you have reminded me that I need to get some more. OH went and bought some of that stuff you do in the microweave. Looks horrible and tastes horrible. Cannot beat the organic porridge. Lovely and chunky.

Hi Julie,
Ok I am on weight man programme and these are just a few tips. If you fancy something sweet, go for a handful of cereal. If you like your afters and you dont like a lot of milk or yogurt like me, try this.
Orange sugar free jelly (just make it like mormal) Add in a tin of small orange segments, wait for it to cool a little then add 150g of natural yog and put in the fridge. Its lovely. You can so with all kinds of fruit but not pinnaple or kiwi.
Use a plate thats inbetween a tea plate and normal plate. 6-8 carbs a day, 5 or more fruit and veg, 4 protiens, pulses are good. Dont 4get your milk.
Hope you go well. Thinking of you as I know its hard.
Love Claire
Oh and verg soup is fantastic. Butternut Squash, sweet potato and ginger is lovely 2.
