    Hi,

Don't have any first hand experience of actual treatments to replace meds but have found strapping a cabbage leaf to my knee overnight greatly reduces inflammation!!

Also using certain aromatherapy oils in the bath help with pain reduction. And some are recommended for inflammation.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

LOL Delboy, never tried, but I know it works for a lot of people and is prescribed in a lot of cases.
You can always visit a homeopathic Dr of medicine, not just the health store. I know they cured me of terrible hay fever many years ago and they will have lots of things that can help with pain relief. They go to the far end of the field with your health and daily life history. Might be worth a consultation, nothing to loose.

Have tried the off the shelf usual things like glucosamine ,but that is as useful as a chocolate fire guard, despite the adverts that show people leaping around and doing the twist.

    Hi

I've tried a whole range of 'natural remedies' from Manuka honey and manuka honey ointment; magnetic bed sheets; copper bracelets and a tens machine - none of them have worked for me. I nearly forgot the honey and cider drink - no benefits. I think once the joint is attacked by this disease called 'arthritis' the only thing that really helps me is prescribed medicaton. I do, however, take 1500 mg of glucosamine daily as this seems to help. I had a trial period of no glucosamine which resulted in a bad flare.

    This is only my experience.

A subject dear to my heart.

I believe there are some foods which can help arthur, although it's all early days for me and therefore unproven by experience.

    Here's what I have so far;

Omega 3 is known to benefit joint action..........sort of.

It has something to do with the RATIO of Omega 3 to Omega 6 that one absorbs. In a completely natural (very healthy) diet as eaten by our very early ancestors the ratio would be about 4 parts Omg-6 to 1 part Om-3. ( i.e. 4/1 )

However with a typical modern western diet the ratio of Omg-3 is much lower, more like 50/1.

Sooooo........eat more Omega 3 rich foods, such as:-

    Walnuts
    Hemp seeds
    Flax seeds
    Broccoli
    Strawberrys

I have deliberately left out fish oil supplements for reasons I won't go into here.

I dare say upping your Omg-3 levels will not be a miracle cure, but if it helps at all it will be worthwhile going with.

Good luck and I hope this info proves useful. If it does, let me know!

    All the best, Kevin

Have tried non smelly garlic, cayenne pepper, omega 3,6,9,
Vitamin C and a few other things I can't remember...probably because they didn't do a lot of good for me. I guess the thing to do is keep trying different things and hope to hit the jackpot one day.
now on a strict fresh fruit, veg, fish program, but too early to tell the benefits.
have heard liberal amounts of olive oil every day helps. Greeks and Italians don't have 1/2 the arthritis of other countries, supposedly because they love their olive oil

Hi everyone, yeah a small amount of Vit D is ok, but not too much, because it causes arthritic-like pains. Small amount of sun is ok too, but again not too much. "Moderation in all things..."
Wouldn't it be luverly if we could all just wiggle our noses and all our aches/pains would disappear? Have a great painfree day everyone.
