hello just wondering if anyone here has ever had a stairlift installed because stairs where a problem?

did it make life better for you, and who did you use?
or did you just move to a house without any stairs?

just wondering as i may have to sort this problem out in the near future, i dont really want to move unless i got no choice as moving is a big hassle and as my son has got specail needs and would find this difficult i need to think about what my options would be

My friend had one installed for her Mum. Her Mum passed away (nothing to do with the stairlift!!) and she kept the stairlift - she doesn't use it - but says she might need it one day and I can use it when I go round after my hip op!!

Don't know what make it is. I suppose it is like any big purchase - a case of collecting quotes. Have you asked the OT service if they offer advice on this? They might know about grants too?

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Sylvia

Yes I have a stair lift. They are great I could not manage without one.

The aftercare service is excellant too. They service it every 6 months.

I got mine through the OT's while I was in hospital as I could no longer go upstairs without one.

    They insured as well.

It really made a big difference as I would have had to move or stay upstairs or downstairs. If you are getting one, it will really make a difference to you.

we thinking about it but the ot department are too mean when i mentioned about it i got the feeling they thought it was too much money, i see there point, but i am not that impressed with the way they do things where i live, i am sorry to say i would rather do it off my own back that have all the hassle of them not giving me a yes or no, so frustrating.

Hi, I don't have one, but my niece, who is disabled does. She finds it really good and without it, she would have had to move, as she can't walk more than a few steps to transfer. She paid for hers and it was quite expensive, but she managed to get a re-conditioned one that was cheaper.

They are very good at comming out to fix it, which only happened once in quite a few years use. It fits into quite a small space too. Your O.T. should be able to advise you. My niece went to the hospital and tried one, before buying. She is very disabled, and has a condition that effects her whole body.

Hope this is useful. Love Sue
