Ultra sound scan

Hello,
Its me again.
I've just recieved a letter from the hospital asking me to go for an ultrasound on 27 April, as the consultant has seen the x-rays of my feet and neck.
I've had ultrasound before on my tummy for endomitrosis, it was over 25 years ago and a new technique then!
I don't know if this is because they want to be sure its something like RA or that it really isn't anything like that! I've had a feeling that it is RA, from the symptoms, flares and swellings etc but as arthritis is so crafty, and the bloods have been good, I've dismissed it as much as possible.
If its RA the down side is that its always medications for ever! The hospital visits and learning how to live with it. My own limits, etc.
The positive side would be that their are medicaions that really help and stop things from getting too bad (if you'r lucky) and its better the earlier diagnosed you are. I would have a definate diagnosis after all this time. Also the shock, of course would still be thier, but having used this site a lot, I have seen the people who cope and have full lives, but I'm not sure of anything yet. I am lucky that the hospital, at last, seem to be on the ball and whatever the problems are hopefully, I'll find out.
I am a bit nervious about how I react, either way! but, well, thats natural, and thanks to everyone on this site, I've come to see all sorts of ways to cope, so I'll just try and forget it for the moment. Hope you don't mind me going on like this, its just straightening my head our a bit, now thats a BIG,BiG job!
Love Sue

Hi Sue
Good to see you
I think - go for your ultrasound and try not to worry :? waht am I like?? of course you will worry  Who wouldn't?
As you knwo even if it IS RA the treatments are ok. There would be one for you and if it is you will probably have been living with it for a good while anyway - so no change there.
At least ultrasounds don't hurt too
Do let us know how you get on
Love

Hi Sue,
I agree with Toni here what ever it is you have had for a while and you have coped well with it so try not to let the idea of a name get to you. Hey you would also get treatment and it would be brought under control for you at last. We are jumping the gun here cus you might not have another thing there eh?
Ultra sounds well they do them for more detailed looks. The MRI's are very good but targeted at a particular bit and that’s all that’s got good detail. Ultrasounds can be moved about and the different bits looked at all in one go so its probably why they are doing one. I have my neck done by ultrasound regularly as that way they can keep a good track on what its up to, where the inflammation is and also where they are gong to inject
Try not to worry and hope apart from this your keeping ok? Luv and a ((( ))) Cris x0 -
Hey Sue,
Im having one of those done soon too..
I agree with what the others have said, try not to worry - easier said than done, I certainly don't know how to do it!!
Good luck, let us know what it shows..0 -
Hi Sue,
I had a ultrasound scan on my knee last month to check to see if I had a cyst and it gave my Rheumy all sorts of info - they are very useful.
I feel, at the moment, you're between a rock and a hard place.... you don't want to be told you have RA and neither do you want to be left undiagnosed. If it is RA at least you know it's treatable and with meds you could be feeling better than you do right now. You have had some low points these last few months and you do need the help they're giving you as you can't go on feeling so down.
Onwards and upwards Sue we're always here for you.

Hi, Thank you for the kind messages and the support. I do want to find out whats going on, of course, and have any treatment needed.
I think, in a way, it was a shock to just get an appointment, without any discussion or explanation. I missed an appointment with my GP when she was ill, she phoned, but said it was too complicated to discuss over the phone and she was off on a holiday the next day, I am going to see her, but its not for a while, yet. She didn't want me to see another GP in the practice as she wanted to talk to me herself, so I expect she would have explained the scan.
I am now going to TRY and forget it for a while!
Sorry to go on so much, I just wanted to get things straight in my mind and share the info!
It is positive and I'm lucky!

Good luck, Sue. It will be ok. I know it's hard but try to keep a clear mind and not get in a panic until you find out exactly what's going on.
I had an ultrasound of my ankle. It's a pretty simple procedure but very useful, non invasive and cheaper than other types of scans i.e. MRI scans, which is why I think some rheumys like to do them.

Hi Sue,
I reckon that's what the gp was gong to see you about then? It would have been easier had she been able to explain it but I am still sure they just want a better look at your joints there.
Hey hope you go a bit of sun there and leaving you another ((( ))) Cris x0 -
i do not think it panic ,so much as those dark thoughts that hide at the back of our minds and only show there heads when we r down. so glad they are looking into it so closely it far better to know what going on even if a little on the scary side we will be here if you need usval0
