How do you address it?

Once upon a time, in the old days, when people wouldn't dream of living together ( ….unless they were really daring or they weren't worried that their dad would turn up with a shotgun …. ) addressing an envelope to a couple was really easy with Mr and Mrs etc :D

I wanted to send a card, last week, to my niece and her partner on the birth of their child but when I came to address the envelope I was faced, yet again, with this question. :| To put both their full names on seemed a bit strange, :? to put just first names on even odder, :? to put just one of their names on when they'd both had the baby … not right. :|:|

I know on the scale of life's problems this is nothing to lose sleep over …..but what do you do?

Legs, stop banging yer `ead, you`ll give yourself a headache.

In situations like this, I just address the envelope to one half of the couple, in this case it would be your neice. Then, make it very clear inside the card that it`s to - and about - both of them. If possible, I try to get a card that says "To You Both on...........whatever the occasion".

The thing is, like you, I really mithered over it, when, quite honestly, they don`t give a toss..........Much love.......Ange.

    Hi Linda :)

I simply put both first names and both surnames. :D I have got used to it over time and don't give it a second thought anymore :D

What I do find a little difficult sometimes, when talking to people, is what to call my "daughter and son in law" because techically they are not. Sometimes for ease I do call them that, also because, to me they are. That all sounds a little muddly, so I hope you know what I mean.

My daughter does not like the word "partner" so chooses to use the word "boyfriend" although they have been together 3 years and live together. To me these two words do not mean the same, in my book! There you go!

You were right Ange I now have a headache  :D
    Thanks for the reply.

......and Elna I, too, have this problem. To me my sons girls are more than a girlfriend and partner sounds like they're in business together. I sometimes introduce them as their 'one and only' or 'other half' ....but both sound a bit awkward to me :|

    Hi Legs

That is a puzzler? and one we all have now and then. In that instance I think I would have addressed it to Mum and Dad which would have hopefully made them smile. :D Though I think Ange has it right, the envelope really doesn't matter it's whats inside that counts.
I lived with my partner for 12 years and hated the word boyfriend so used to introduce him as my probationary cohabitee! We often had cards with just our first names on, it really didn't matter to us.
    Congrats to them both.

Well there you go as i thought you were married Sharon. and 16 years together you are beating me as I have 12and three quarters!

Linda I get all sorts on my envelopes....the school refer me as Mrs M (partners name) even though I am Ms S. as i still use my married name and family call me Miss H or Mrs H my maiden name. And to make matters worse my friends call me Sam so I am Sam S or Sam and Ricky M.And he has a nick-name too!
I have just got used to all of the them and sometimes it just gets so confusing!.Help.....and Elizabeth was originally my middle name cos my first name was unusual and drove me mad so I changed it officially(sorry mum!!!!) to my middle name to make things easier. So sometimes I get that name used as well by my relatives.I never know what I am going to get on my envelopes but i dont mind as a card in any form is lovely.

    All the best and congratulations.

I heard that married couples may get tax benifits like they used to, that might be worth getting married for

Don't rock the boat, my lovelies and get married now, not for perhaps £3 a week. Wow !! As you have been together for so long, best leave alone. Stay as you are!

Ben my son, has known his Lulie (pet name) for nearly 12 years and he will only be 29, the middle of this month. :D

    Hugs

No, I haven't seen the baby yet as he's had to go back into hospital, poor little mite wasn't feeding and then he wasn't having a wee wee and when he did there was blood in it, we're waiting for news.

He's called Joshua Lee which, as I've mentioned before on another thread, I'm much relieved because he was going to be called Logan  ...sorry if anyone likes that name

The worst one is when they address it to Sweet Pea or Toddles(nicknames as a baby). They do that to me sometimes!Brothers!!!!
