Hi Rob, after several periods of getting my DLA for 3 years each time, I now get mine for an indefinite period, I think it because I get high rate mobility I am not sure, hope you get yours awarded love Jaspercatxx0

Hiya,
It is my understanding that occasionally "indefinitely" awards are made. However a small percentage of these can be reviewed to check the accuracy of claims and awards made.
My foster son has autism ... for which there is no cure. As he got older the gap between him and his non-autistic peers widened ... He has always had high rate care and low rate mobility and I have to refill in detailed claim forms every few years on his behalf ... barmy!!
SpeedalongI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi I've got r/a and my first award was for 3 years and this second one is for 2 years and the reason is because new treatments can improve my r/a, so i will be having to apply for it again later on in the year.

Hi Rob,
I have PA and was awarded high rate mobility and low rate care in 2002 when I first applied for DLA; after a year they changed both to indefinite without me having to do anything.
Every year I get a letter telling me what the increased rate is and confirming that it's still an indefinite award.
I think though that they can still decide to review it at any time but don't know what criteria they use to decide if and when.
hope you get a good result. good luck!

Hi Rob
Glad to see you I hope all is well with you and yours.
I think they are trying NOT to give awards for life no matter what....so chances are it will be for a period of time - then reveiwed and the periods of time should get longer.
You take care
Love

It is upto the DLA peeps. They decide.
No R.A wont go away but the condition does change for better or worse over time.Sometimes they only give you a years award if they think an operation is coming up and should help.

Hi Rob,
Depending on your condition it's reviewed every 3 years for a set number of years...... yes, you are faced with those tiresome, depressing forms every time
After several years you might get it indefinitely but it's not guaranteed to happen.

As people have said there is different periods of time ranging from a year to indefinite awards. But because the treatment for RA is changing and hopefully improving every year the DLA very rarely offer it indefinitely.
When I first applied I got low rate care indefinitely (back in 2002) but when I did a change of circumstances they changed it to a 5 year award. I did another change in circumstances in January (my award runs out in Jan 2011) and was awarded the same level and they kept the same expiry date. Apparently my condition will change on this date (goodness knows why as there is nothing which specifies a date in my application!!). So I have to apply again either 6months before the expiry or 3 months before - the DLA people don't know when as I've asked.0 -
Hi, I was awarded DLA for two years (its up for review this Autumn)
on the basis that although RA is a progressive disease the symptoms can be improved with the right medication and therefore make you less disabled.
good luck

Hi Rob, I was awarded DLA for life, as, like you say, its not gonna go away is it!! Sandra xx0 -
As my Doctor said recently, the DLA are forever changing their criteria and no one seems to know what they are up to and how they make their decisions or for how long, the goalposts seem to wander around. They certainly drive my GP and Consultants up the wall. Three years seem a normal award, but, indefinate awards can come through. XXX BubblesXX Aidan (still known as Bubbles).0
