Having a Flare - so where do I turn?

After spending all day hoping that I was just very tired from overdoing it yesterday (in typical mum fashion, I had the beds stripped and aired, hoovered etc before having another go at riding a bike), I have finally taken to my bed and succumbed to the fact that I really don't feel very well AT ALL :-(

It's not a cold, it's not flu, it's the flu-type symptoms and general achiness I get when I have a flare. I've been lucky so far, only had a couple like this in the year I have been diagnosed with RA, but this is definitely arthur biting me in the bum for daring to be so energetic on a bright sunny day.

It's funny though, the first thing I thought of was "Must take the laptop upstairs with me so I can ask for sympathy on Arthritis Care. Have really started to rely on you all

Nina X

PS - am feeling warmer now I'm actually in bed

Hi Nina sorry to hear your in flare mode, you do what I do and retire to somewhere snug to sit it out, it's been over a month now and I have been flare free, it seems I normally have a flare of some level around once a month, depends what I do, anyway I hope it passes soon, take care.

    Thanks Mell

I find I feel at my worst when the weather changes - from hot to cold, cold to hot, sunny to rainy etc. When the weather settles, I'm usually OK.

Feeling snug now though, watching Finding Nemo with my girls while hubby works late :)

    Hi Nina
I am so sorry you are not feeling well, these awful flares, like you say the warm weather can bring them on, not just winter.
I really hope you are feeling better very soon, you stay all snug in bed.

My sympathies Nina and I'm feeling about the same as you. Since I've come back from my Hols I've been going downhill. I was so bad at work on thursday I had to take my shoes off to walk from one desk to another. Fingers have 'clawed' slightly and I'm trying to straighten them out a bit by using them on here. Not working much though I've had to re-type this 3 times and I haven't finished yet. I've had a nice warm bath tonight adn that is helping a bit.
So cyber gentle huggs fromme to you and all oyu others who are suffering.

Hello, i tried to get my garden sorted out a tiny bit on the first warmer day of this year just last month. I had such a serious flare up for over three weeks i was virtially incapable of doing anything as my Fibro and Arthur pain were unbearable !!! It's not the first time that i'v thought i can do small things indoors and then afterwards have suffered beyond belief as i am alone it's terrible. You have made such a good point here so i'v replied in the very best words that i can as i find dealing with flare ups really difficult.

    Hi Nina

Sorry to hear you have had a flare, and I hope you will soon feel better.

I try my best to ignore Arthur, but he has a nasty habit of reappearing at inconvenient times. I overdid things on Friday, when I went to London and walked miles, and I've been hobbling around ever since. Now my three grand-daughters have arrived to stay for a few days, and I promised to take them out and about. The mind is willing, but I'm doubtful about the body :!:

There is no rhyme or reason with Arthur. But I find a good long rest helps although all you working peeps cant just put your feet up whenever.

Thanks for all your replies, I fell asleep last night WAY before the girls did. They were actually reading your replies instead of me and I can vaguely remember them saying "You've got another message, Mama, look!" So thanks for keeping the replies clean :-)

Feeling a bit better today but still shaky, I'm going to try to go for a gentle swim later to ease the stiffness. Luckily it's all quiet at work, very unusual for a Monday morning, but we're making the most of it.

Thanks again, you lot are brill.

    Hi Nina

I think I have just gone through a rather bad flare. I was so energetic last week with my grandsons, doing so much and prob too much.
    Now I am suffering
I went to sleep for a couple of hours in the chair this afternoon

I think that is what I need, I tend to fight it. All my toes and fingers are swollen and shoulders thighs sore. It's a job holding things and I feel cold

    Is that a flare up?

    hope you feel better soon

    Hi Joy

I'm so sorry I didn't reply last week, I've just realised there was another reply to this thread now!

That does sound like a flare - are you better now?

    Hi there Nina

Sorry you in flare mode. So am I. I think we try to do too much, especially since the weather has got warmer. It has taken so long to get here and now we are all panicking to get things done.

It's hard to take things easy isn't it because you are such a busy caring person yourself.

Anyway. hope you feel heeps better soon

    Joy
