Thanks Sue, my main worry is coping with S over the school half term ... plus I don't feel very prepared or organised as thought I had ages yet ...

My pre-op was in January but operation was in July although I could have had an April and a May operation date neither of which I could do...holidays and other things arranged.
    Hope that helps.

when i had my op it was my childrens needs which concerned me most so arranged respite and care throughout summer hols.Sadly missed my sons end of school play and parties(he was changing from Junior to Senior).Holidays were easier than school time as no rushing around and deadlines and no school clothes to wash and iron.
My son has 1st week of June off too.He goes to a special school and as other 2 are still at school it gives us a chance to concerntrate on him alone.
Just want to say if it is a THR you may be up and about sooner than you think.Without all the pain I could do so much more.
As i have said I refused Apil op then a May op date.If its not convenient then it shouldnt be a problem but dont delay too often...I dont think they were going to let me off 3 times!!!!!

    Hi speedalong,

    WOW :D  :D now that's what I call action!...no wonder you're reeling.
It is a shock to get the pre op assessment at such short notice, but it doesn't mean you have lost control of the situation......
if the date they give you for the op is just impractical because of arrangements you have to make for your son....tell them. I'm sure they will understand and make adjustments to the date of the op if need be.

But hopefully everything WILL fall into place and you'll get this much needed and long awaited op and be the better for it. :D:wink:
You have been in such agony with arther and besides helping with the pain this op could give you back a lot of your mobility. How wonderful would that be?!

Keep strong, deep breath and take it one step at a time. Do only the immediate things.....speak to your friend and then you will know what is possible for S. Write down what you need to ask for tomorrow and the rest will follow on from that.

We are 100% behind you. :!: ((((HUGS)))

Gosh Speedalong - that would really have 'thrown' me too!! I think you have to have the op done within 4 weeks of the pre-op, otherwise they have to do the tests again. You might/should be able to negotiate your actual admission date a little bit though, given that you are a carer and need to organise care for your foster-son..

Just think how wonderful this summer will be without the pain..

I'm looking forward to hear about what happens to you tomorrow (my pre-op for my THR is next Wednesday!)

    Best wishes

    Hi Speedalong,
It certainly has done that! What a rollercoaster you're on!
Take a deep breath and count to ten .... maybe 20 given the circumstances. Reckon your BP shot up, like Elna said!

Perhaps they may be able to give you a hint tomorrow, at the pre-op check ..eh? Like they said ..... would be lovely to have it over for the summer months.

It'll be fine, I'm sure .... everything will fall into place.
    Sending you (((( )))))s

    Hi Iris,
WOW now that's what I call action!...no wonder you're reeling.
Yes that just about sums it up - I thought they were ringing to say well, we've checked the list and your op will be around .... NOT come for your pre-op assessment tomorrow!!! But since I'm still on school hols and S is back at school - decided it would be a good time to go as no time off work/childcare issues.

But hopefully everything WILL fall into place and you'll get this much needed and long awaited op and be the better for it.
You have been in such agony with arther and besides helping with the pain this op could give you back a lot of your mobility. How wonderful would that be?!
If I keep my head - it very easily might all fall into place. And lower pain and more mobility would be amazing!!
Keep strong, deep breath and take it one step at a time. Do only the immediate things.....speak to your friend and then you will know what is possible for S. Write down what you need to ask for tomorrow and the rest will follow on from that.
This is what I'm now focusing on - questions to ask tomorrow etc Friend says she WILL drop everything to move in with Surj and sort it somehow - so my main worry is being ready and the imminent half term when Surj has two weeks...
We are 100% behind you. ((((HUGS)))
This forum is a fab support. Thank goodness I stumbled on it when I did. All the messages this afternoon and evening have REALLY helped.

i think when you go for pre op.you usually have the op within 2 weeks that was the time when i had 2 ops.because it is to see if your fit for op.so they wont leave it to long after your appontment.good luck hope all goes well.(sometimes they give you a date at your pre op.)

Hi Ironic – I love lists too … I’m currently adding to a pre-op list and a general to do list – which will need prioritising.

Thank you Bertyboy. I have got support – especially for whilst op is being done. My fear is afterwards. But I think I need to have a bit of faith in things working out.

Hi Marion – thanks for that info on pre-ops. Good luck for your appointment on Wed. Will defin being posting an update – you too!

Hi Do – does feel like I’m on a roller coaster!! But I’m feeling calmer now – thanks to this forum and a big glass of red wine!!

My hospital must do things differently then!Had to re-do some tests just before but my general pre-op was 4 months before!
I thought I would be stuck in bed for all the summer hols.Within days I was doing more than I could before the op.But just prepare everything for a long rest to be on the safe side.
    Good luck
