Hi, hope you all okay.
Nearly 3 weeks post op but am having a down patch - has anybody else experienced this? Has been a bit quiet this week and seems like a very long 3 weeks! Am meant to be going out tomorrow but don't really want to as means someone going out of their way to collect me (will prob do me good mind you).

Hi Josie
I am not sure why you are down but I think going out will do you good. Don't fret about the person going out of their way to collect you, they would not offer, if they did not wish to do so. Sometimes when we are not too keen to go out it turns out to be a really enjoyable time. You have been cooped up for three weeks, convalescing and as you say this week has been quiet.
Go out tomorrow and enjoy yourself and have a laugh and joke. It will do you the power of good.
Luv

Hi josie
I am so sorry you are feeling down, I am not sure what op you had, but I do know, that you can get down after a op.
I do agree with Elna, that sometimes you do have to push yourself a little bit when it comes to going out, it may be the change you need, getting ready and enjoying the night, I am sure whoever is taking you will be happy to see you enjoying yourself.
Please let us know how you get on, and take care.

Hi Josie,
I wholeheartedly agree with Elna -Don't fret about the person going out of their way to collect you, they would not offer, if they did not wish to do so.
People always think lots of time to sit at home convalescing - watching daytime TV and reading - sounds great - well they should try 3 weeks of it - no wonder you feel a bit fed up!!
Especially since as you say it has been a quiet week.
Have a lovely time tomorrow and don't be so hard on yourself ...
I nearly went nutty recovering last time - I had my hip op and will prob go the same way again when I have my op in May!!
SpeedalongI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Josie,
Sorry your feeling down there and I also agree going out will help you and I am sure they don't mind collecting you either. As to why, well in m case i used to get bit low with the forced resting following the ops. Its as if the walls started to come in at me and maybe that's what yo have a reaction to? Your half way there now and broken the back of it so hang in there. Hey going out really will help you know and are you going anywhere nice? Hope you soon feel better ((( ))) Cris xx0 -
Hi Josie,
sometimes 'feeling down' comes upon us without us being able to pinpoint the reason.
Whatever is causing it for you the important thing is not to add feeling guilty about someone taking you out.I'm sure that this friend is happy to be able to do something for you and will be looking forward to spending time out with you?! If it were the other way round I would safely put a bet on it that you would be the one offering support to a friend... :!:
Getting out of the house and having a blether in nice surroundings is just what the doctor would order! so....please don't get stuck with feeling down.....relax and go with the flow.
Hope you have a lovely day...let us know won't you?

Oh yes please go out tomorrow. The forecast is good and i bet you will feel better for it. Just being away from the four walls might give you the lift you need right now.

Hi Josie
You must go out tomorrow - I'm sure it will cheer you up - and can you make some plans for next Saturday too? - it would give you something to look forward to ....
I've got 6 weeks of being dependent on people taking me out coming up soon (am having a THR so won't be able to drive for a while) and am really dreading the loss of independence....
Best wishes

Hi, I have had major surgery before, but not for arthritis.
My emotions were all over the place up one day, tearful and down the next. Sometimes thinking how lucky I was to be getting better and others thinking how long it was taking and how tired I felt and that I'd never be better.
They settled down with time and understanding friends & family. It did take a lot longer than I realised, though and even when I was back at work and looking fine, I'd still have bad days, but they got further apart and I began to forget the op.
What I'm really saying is, I think its normal and all part of the healing process. Try not to worry and stick out the bad times. They will get better.
Take Care, Love Sue0 -
Hi Josie **hugs**
It's been a tough few weeks for you, so I'm not surprised you're feeling down. I hope you do get out. The weather is lovely and it will do you good.
Take care & chin up, it'll get easier. x0 -
Thankyou all for your continued support, it really means a lot and you are absolutely right of course! I am going out later to meet up with friends, some of whom I don't see often as they live in Surrey, and I'm sure it will be lovely. I think it is a combination of a few things like you say-you're so psyched up to have it done and then relieved when it is that you're kept going for a while and you almost forget about the recovery bit! I have had to tell a few people already that just because I am going to the hospital on Wednesday does not mean it is all done with and will take a good couple of months to settle properly - that seemed to surprise them! Will report back tomorrow, Josie xxx0

Have a great time, Josie.
Just say that it is a post op check to see that all is going well and as you say and the consultant will say too, it will take some months before you are able to get your dancing shoes on again. 8)

Hi Marion - I'm dreading the very same thing ...
Josie- so glad you decided to go, after all.

Hi, I did go and really enjoyed it as you would expect and feel better today for having spent some time out of the house. Am sure being stuck in isn't helping my mood. One of my colleagues phoned this morning to see how I was as well.
So all in all a good day. x
