Hi Bertyboy
To my way of thinking a TOTAL knee replacement is what it says. Perhaps your consultant is thinking that he may be able to do a partial.
Anyway at the end of the day, the consultant will not know EXACTLY what is going on inside your knee until he has done some preliminary investigations on the operation table.
What will be will be, he will do his best for you once he is properly in the know which will not be until he has had a good look inside your knee.
I would not worry too much, but if you would like anything clarified, you could phone his secretary or ask him at the hospital on the day before you sign the consent form, if you have not already done that.
