Hello, Welcome to the Forum.
I'm sorry you have such a lot of pain in you hands. I have very sore finger and thumb joints too, and the pain varies from a dull ache to sharper pains. Have you seen your GP about them? He can give you advice about the cause and the correct pain killers to take. I have some exercises too, from the physio, to help keep my hands flexable, as they get stiff. Also an OT referral might help you with gagets that are useful and save you hurting your hands or not being able to do things. You certainly arn't the only one with hand problems, its quite a usual place to get pain.
I'm sure lots of people on here will suggest things for you, too. This is a helpful and friendly site! I know I've learnt a lot from other sufjferers.
I hope you find some help out there and get a bit of ease from the pain. Love Sue0 -
Hi Paul, sorry you are having a lot of problems with your hands - what a nuisance too. I can't offer any advice - but am sure others will be able to make suggestions soon.
SpeedalongI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hello Paul....nice to meet you
I've had arther (PA) in my hands, wrists for years and yes I do get a 'stinging' in the joints.....part and parcel of having arther I think.
I agree that you should have your meds reviewed to help with controlling the inflammation and swelling which is destructive to the joints if left unchecked.
There are a lot more meds over and above anti inflammatories that your docs/ consultant could be looking at....and what about pain relief?
Have you been on anything other than the cream you've mentioned?
I also have a hot wax hand bath that I bought (£40.00 well spent) and use that at least twice a day; it is so soothing for the joints and eases the pain for a time...maybe that is something 'non invasive' that you could consider?
you could also get wrist splints with a thumb splint built in...I could not function without them...and a resting splint for night time use. they take the strain off the hands/ joints and OT and Physio can both provide them. speak to your doc about being referred or contact local social services for community OT.
there are lots of peeps here on the forum with hand problems so I hope you'll get lots of info that will help you.
hope to see you posting again.

Hi
Well I think Iris covered that very well
was going to suggest you see if you can get some splints for your hands to rest them
Starting point for this being your GP.
I hope you manage to sort them out - it is so frightening when things go wrong isn't it? I think hands very much so because we use them all the time.
You take care
