It is now 3+ weeks post op TKR, still in alot of pain, I can just bend my knee enough to get my heel on the foot bar of my wheelchair but I can only bare it for a few minutes.
Thigh muscle is still unresponsive and I can't even get it to twitch.

Off for my first physio app tomorrow and am looking forward to seeing if they think I am progressing well!

    Hi Zec

    - is your physio tomorrow?? I'm sure they will get your knee bending - they aren't the sort of people to be put off by a stubborn knee joint!

Well done for getting it bent enought to rest foot on footplate - if only for a few mins.

Let's hope they give you some exercises. Ask them about the passive exercise machine whilst you are there? Or do they come to you?

    Keep us posted.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Zec

All the very best at your physio apointment, not before time, methinks! I am sure that by working together, you will get the bend you need to be able to get into your wheelchair to become independent again.

Please report back after the session.

    Luv

    Hi Zechariah

I'm sorry to hear that you are still in a lot of pain and I hope your session witht he physio goes well.

Getting that bend in your knee is quite an achievement even if it is for a few minutes. I don't know about you but I found sitting down for any length of time during the first month difficult.

    Take care.

    Hi Zech

Thank goodness you have your physio date finally. I do think Elna is right and it should help a lot. You really do seem to have suffered a lot.

I wish you all the best

    Love

I am glad you said you had trouble sitting, I am having that problem and thought it was just me!

I can manage 1/2 hour max and that is not comfortable.

It really does help to share with people on this forum, I am so grateful to all of you for the support and advice!

Saw the physioterrorist and he thinks I will take longer to recover due to other problems, so now I know I can dig in and get through it!

    Hi Zech

and I bet that made you feel better too. We are all different aren't we? No two people or ops are the same.

When I had my back op I was a right wimp!!! I was in AGONY for weeks and weeks and bitterly regretted it for ages. Now of course I am glad I had it done :)

I bet you feel much more in control now - you WILL get there with the pyhsio's support.

    Take care

    Hi Zec

I too think that it may well take you longer due to other things, but it looks like you have a physio willing to get you through it to the best of their ability and that is a positive. You also have an extremely positive attitude and that will get you far. :):) I think you are a super example to us all. :D I really do. :D I admire your stamina greatly. :D You will do it.

Please do keep in touch. :)

    Hi Zechariah

I'm glad your phsyio went well. The surgeon told me that my left knee was left so long that tissue etc had started to attach itself to my thigh and lower leg bones.... he had a job to cut it all away. The physio said because of this I would just take a bit longer to do certain things. I was in a wheelchair up until I had my TKR and now can get about (short distances) without even a crutch. You'll find your sitting will improve with time. I used to sit with a pillow under my feet - only because i knew it was important to get that bend in my new knee. Because you've had complications then things take a bit longer.

The physiotherapists are really great and to think 10+ weeks down the lane I can use an exercise bike and don't need the wheelchair!!
Have you seen the x rays of your new knee? My physiotherapist showed me mine and what an improvement everything was straight.

You sound really chirpy and yes with determination you certainly will get through it! :)

    Keep up the good work.

Hi Zec glad physio went well and physio was straight with you - it's good to have someone you can trust. When is your next session?

It is right about everyone being different. When I had my last THR I was on bed rest and then no weight bearing - the older folks were all up out of bed and making their way to the bathroom etc and I was still in bed!! They kept asking me why I wasn't up like them and why I was still in bed - a wee young thing like me ...etc My recovery was longer - they had done away with crutches when I was finally allowed to weight bear on that leg ... but I got there in the end.
