Hi,,,,dont know if youn remember but Dec a year ago {16 months now}
I was crossing behind a parked car in a little village and he started, reversed, knocked me down and reversed over my ankle and then drove over it for good measure. I have plate, screws, pins etc in it....it was well smashed. I decided to claim. His insurance company sent me to an independant orthopaedic surgeon 7 months after it happened. He just laughed and said what did they send you to me so soon for? I wnat to see you 16 to 18 months post accident then we'll know the damage. Well its 16 months now and my appointment is tomorrow...wish me luck...maybe the case will start moving after he puts his report in. I do know that I now have arthritis in that ankle....when the ortho was doing the x rays for my hips pre replacement I asked would he do my ankle as well and check the metal was still in place because it was hurting.....When I went back to his office he said right...you need 2 new hips and by the way you have arthritis in that ankle now as well.....but the other side wont accept that so tomorrow have to see this other bod LOL...Love Hileena

    Hi Hileena

    Best of luck for tomorrow - let us know how you get on.

    What a horrendous accident- I am cringing at the thought of it.

    That sounded a dreadful accident ... good luck for tomorrow. Would your consultant not write a supporting letter?

    I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Hileena,

    that must have been just awful for you. :shock: you had the physical trauma but what about the psychological impact of that? I would have been traumatised.

    Like Marion and speedalong I too wish you well for the ortho tomorrow xxx

    I was in a road accident 7yrs ago....not as badly hurt as you....but it was my insurers (injury specialist insurance- part of car insurance ) who sent me to an independent ortho consultant and submitted his report to the 'other' side.
    It may be that your reps have agreed to accept the ortho bods independent status and report which is also common practice.

    I found the ortho very very helpful and supportive. he carried out a complete physical skeletal examination and asked me my health history relating to arther from the year dot, the effect the injuries had on me at the time, 6 weeks on and 3 mths on, 6 mths on; what my pain, physical limitations were before the accident and what additional pain, problems I thought the accident had caused me. What day to day tasks had been affected (housework, shopping, work, socialising) the financial impact of that, what assistance I'd had and how I'd paid for it! How I was now!!!
    He didn't put words in my mouth but certainly helped me to think it through.

    If you have time Marion prepare by looking at all of the above...the before, immediate aftermath and stages since the accident. the finances, day to day impact and the pain. Remember please to think about the psychological too.....disturbed sleep, increased nervousness when out, emotional stress. DO NOT MINIMISE!!!!

    took another 18mths to settle out of court, although they kept prevaricating right up to the last!

    hope that helps and good luck!

    Hi Thanks for the messages. Apparently he does send a report to my solicitor and and he will send me a copy report. They also sent me {months ago } to a psychologist about the trauma. My main thing was terrified walking through car parks. If I heard a car starting i cringed into the side of the wall or my husband. Didnt put me off driving but going through car parks or anywhere near cars that were parked was an ordeal. Its now pushing 8am and I'm just getting dressed....I'll have a look at your points again and see if I need to note anything more down. I usually go armed with a notebook full of notes to anytype of appointment LOL I'll be in touch later

    Hi
    Yes I've already had one offer out of court.....my solicitor said he couldnt advise me because he would like to see the final report from this orto bloke so I refused it.

    Hi Hileena,

    good luck today!! hope it goes well.x you will not be left hanging around waiting to see the ortho...it's a private consultation so you will be treated like royalty!!!
    (I actually hated that...as I know what it's like normally and resent that money talks.)

    and quite right delboy...I had four offers before finally settling on the figure that my insurers thought was the best I could expect.
    they guided me as I hadn't a clue.
    It was interesting to see what the ortho bod got for his independent report!

    Hi Again delboy
    Well my attitude has been that I never had the money so why worry about it now.....just hang on. Not that I'm rolling in money LOL but what you never have you never miss and it will come eventually {I hope LOL}

    Yes...I would love to know how much he is getting paid.
    I know I got a solicitors letter the other day informing me that his rate had gone up to £177 an hour....after I nearly had heart attack and read on he said not to worry because it was a no fee thing but unless he sent me the letter he wouldnt be able to claimn the full amount fromm the other side.
    We are in the wrong jobs LOL

    you can be sure that the solicitors will be the ones, on both sides, who benefit most!
    we are just the lubricant (oooh I don't like that analogy :shock: )
    meat in the sandwich? no..that's just as bad!

    I think I'll quit with the analogies..I'm rubbish at them!

    Hi
    Well the appt is over.......it absolutely threw him the fact that I had a hip replacement a few weeks ago. He was trying to figure out what I couldnt do that I could do before the accident....then realised the thr was affecting me a little LOL...so basically he said yues you have arthritis in that ankle which wasnt there before and muttered a few medical terms I didnt understand LOL and said I'll send a report to your solicitor and he willsend you a copy of it...the only thing is I'll have to put a bit at the bottom saying that I dont know how much your mobility has been affected ...because of your thr...we'll have to wait until you get both done???????? that was it

    Hi Hileena

    well...that was a bit of a damp squib wasn't it :? :roll:

    not sure.... what did he mean 'wait until after both are done?' surely he's not suggesting they wait.... again? stuff and nonsense if he is. :roll: :x

    but at least it's over. :D thanks for letting us know.x

    Hi Iris
    Yes a damp squib is a good way to explain it LOL......Thats the impression I got...wait until they are both done.....to which I said I doubt if I'll have the 2nd one done...he said They all say that so I dont know.!!!!!!!!..will have to wait to hear from my solicitor {he's good at keeping me up to date on things}
    Oh yes.....I re-read a copy letter from my consulant {that did the thr} to my GP and it said the op was excellent and I was making great improvements and he was see me again in 6- 8 week {after the 6 week appt} and would discuss having the other one done and he mentioned 3 to 4 months.?????? I had the op done on the 12th Feb so when I next see him it will be about 4 months then. I wonder what he meant by 3 to 4 month????? from when??? I dont know about anyone else but I'm almost 10 weeks post op {2 and a half months roughly LOL} and no way could I think of having the other one done at the moment
    Love

    Hi Hileena

    It will be interesting to see this independent ortho's report! surely he can't recommend reserving 'judgement' until after another op? seems nonsense to me . What if you then need another op? cant't just go on and on without resolution.

    It's great you are doing so well after your op but I too would be alarmed at the prospect of more surgery so soon...3- 4 months? :?

    Maybe he meant that at the 4mth post op stage you would discuss the next op, rather than be scheduling another THR?

    My ortho did just that....spoke with me about further surgery but then said he would want a year to have passed before actually doing more surgery. So it's going to be 14mths from the fusion when I have my TWR.

    ask the doc to explain?
